86-65 @ . R B SOL UTI 0 N" No. 86-65 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLliARWATBR~ FLORIDA, OPPOSING THE TRANSFER OF OIL Bun~EBN SHIPS AND BARGES WITHIN THE COASTAL WATERS ADJACENT TO PINBLLAS COUNTY. WHBREAS~ the marino waters of Pinellas County have been desig- nated by the State of Florida as Outstanding Florida Waters; and WHEREAS, Pine lIas County's sensitive marine coastal areas have been designated by the State of Florida as an aquatic prcservej and WHEREAS, the beaches of Clearwater and Pinellas County are a rich and vital economic and natural resource; and \ffiSREAS, the beaches of Clearwater and Pinellas County Bre the dominant attraction for our tourist industry; and WHEREAS, the transfer of oil between ships and barges provides an imminent danger and potential harm to the beaches and marine ecplogy of the Tampa Bay area; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWA1'ER~ FLORIDA: Section 1. The City of Clearwater opposes the location or utilization of an 'oil ~ransfer facility within the Gulf of Mexico sirice, this could potentially degrade the beaches and marine ecology. Section Z. The City of Clear\~ater requests that all Federal, State and local permitting agencies deny any and all such requests. Section 3. Upon adoption of this resolution, the City Clerk sh~11 furnish a certified copy to the Pine lIas County Board of County Commissioners. , Section 4.
