A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
TO THE PINELLAS COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
SUPPORTING THE IMPOSITION OF ADDITIONAL FEES FOR
CERTAIN TRAFFIC INFRACTIONS TO BE USED FOR SCHOOL
CROSSING GUARD PROGRAMS.
WHEREAS, the 1985 Florida Legislature enacted Chapter 85-255,
Laws of Florida, effective October 1, 1985, which authorizes the
Board of County Commissioners to assess an additional penalty up
to $4.00 per violation for certain traffic violations for the
purpose of funding county or municipal school crossing guard
programs; and
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater administers a school crossing
guard program to increase the safety of school children required
to cross its busy streets; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate for drivers found guilty of traffic
violations to assist in the funding of such a program; ,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City of Clearwater urges the Pinellas County
Board of County Commissioners to approve and authorize the Clerk
of the Court to assess an additional penalty of up to $4.00 for
certain traffic violations for the purpose of funding a school '
crossing guard program, and to remit such funds to the municipalities
administering school crossing guard programs.
Section 2. Copies of this Resolution shall be forwardeo to
the Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, the Clerk of
the Court and Mayors of Municipalities located in Pinellas County.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon adoption.
