RESOLUTION
No. 85 - 19
A RESOLUTION OF THE CIT~, OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
ENCOURAGING VISION CABLE AND ALL AREA TV STATIONS
TO AIR THE FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES PUBLIC SERVICE
ANNOUNCEME~T ON DRUNK DRIVING.
WHEREAS, drinking and driving is one of the most critical
social dilemnas facing America today; "nd
WHEREAS, driving fatalities relating to alcohol have escalated
to an all time high and involve thousands of victims each year; and
WHEREAS, during 1983 in Florida alone, over 2,729 people were
killed by drunk drivers; and
WHEREAS, the Florida League of Cities and the City of Clearwater
share the national concern about drinking and driving and recognize
the significant impact that the problem carries in the municipalities
of our State; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Cable Television Association and the
Florida League of Cities are making a statement against drunk
driving through a video Public Service Announcementl and
WHEREAS, the Public Service Announcement has been distributed
to all network and independent television stations in Florida; and
WHEREAS, all cable systems throughout the State with local
advertising capabilities have received a copy of the Public Service
Announcement;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City Commission h~reby requests Vision Cable to
air on Channel 9 and all other area TV Stations to air this Florida
Oriented Public Service Announcement as broadcast time allows.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall become effective immediately
upon its adoption.
