A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
SUPPORTING A PROPOSED INLET DREDGING PROJECT AND
A PROPOSED FUNDING PLAN WITH COSTS SHARED BETWEEN
THE U. S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS, THE STATE OF
FLORIDA, PINELLAS COUNTY, THE CITY OF CLEARWATER
AND THE CITY OF DUNEDIN.
WHEREAS, pinellas County has consented to serve as the local
Sponsor of a navigation project through Dunedin Pass, formerly
known as Big Pass (Latitude 2800111 North, Longitude 82049.7' West);
and
WHEREAS, the Pinellaa County Engineering Section has developed
plans for primary and secondary navigation channels within St.
'Joseph Sound to provide access to the inlet from the City of
Dunedin Municipal Marina and the City of Clearwater Seminole
Street Public Boat Launch Ramps; and
WHEREAS, permit applications are being processed for the
proposed project; and
WHEREAS, certain private parties have provided assurances of
their willingness to participate by granting the required property
access across the northern portion of Clearwater Beach Island; and
WHEREAS, the proposed project is of substantial public benefit
as discussed in the Dunedin and Hurricane Passes, Pinellas CountYL
Florida, Detailed Project Report, Improvements for Small Boat
Navigation; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Clearwater desires
to officially register its support of the proposed project; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Clearwater desires
to officially declare its intent to fund its share of the proposed
project;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City Commission hereby gives its support to the
construction. of a navigation project through Uunedin Pass, including
t\'iO proposed access channela wi ttJin St. Joseph Sound and including
funding participation, as necessary.

Dear Tony:
Our Engineering Section, in cooperation with your Engineering Staff, has
developed'a primary and secondary na~igation channel, servi~g both the City
of'Clearwater and the City of Dunedin, and exiting through the northern tip
of Clearwater Island'into the Gulf of Mexico. Enclosed you will find an
alignment of these two channels and an aerial photograph that shows the cut
and relocation of' the actual channel through Dunedin Pass.

At the present time we are continuing to develop this project and will be
submitting permit applications' to the Florida Department of Environmental
~egulations, the State of Florida Department of Natural Resources - Division
of Beaches and Shores; and the State of Florida Department of Natural Resources
Division'of State Lands, within the'next 60 days. Prior to the actual sub-
mittal of the applications, 'we feel that it is imperative that'environmental
data and test borings' be gathered'so as.to support the feasibility of our
application. We have issued purchase orders for this work (~ngineering Test-
ing - $4660, Environmental $4500, Total $9,160) and would respectfully request
that the City of Clearwater cost Share 50 percent or $4580.'

Within the next 30 days a resolution will be presented to the Pinellas County
Water and Navigation Control Authority requesti~g that the Division of Beaches
and Shores include 1n its 1985/1986 recommendations to the Trustees of the
Internal Improvement Trust Fund funding for the navigational project. We are
requesting that. the State of Florida 'include in its' budget $737,205. It would
be of great assistance to Pinellas County if the City of Clearwater prepare a
resolution' by its City Commission indicating support to the trustees of this
fundi.ng request.
A very tentative estimate for the construction of this project is as follows:
