A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, REQUESTING
THE ASSISTANCE OF THE PI!,TELLAS ANCLOTE
BASIN BOARD OF THE SOUTHWEST FLORIDA WATER
MANAGEMENT DISTRICT IN THE ACQUISITION OF
REAL PROPERTY AND ESTABLISHMENT OF A
MULTI-PURPOSE FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT IN
THE ALLIGATOR CREEK BASIN.
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater has experienced substantial and
repeated flooding sustaining extensive damage to property in the Alligator
Creek Basin; and
WHEREAS, this area was declared a National Disaster Area in
1979; and
WHEREAS, Alligator Creek and its branches are a major water
resource of the City of Clearwater, the County of Pinellas and the Old
Tampa Bay; and
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater stands ready to provide irnprove-
ments to the Basin designed to minimL e flooding while providing multi-
purpose open space and recreational usage of such property; and
WHEREAS, the land in the core of the Alligator Creek Basin is
"
in private owners~ip; and
WHEREAS, the Southwest FLnida Water Management District,'
Pinellas Anclote Basin Board may be able to assist in placing the real
property needed for flood control in the public domain;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the assistance of the Pinellas Anclote Basin Board, a
Subdivision of the Southwest Florida Water 1..,1anagement District, is hereby
requested in the acquisition of real property in the Alligator Creek Basin.
2. That the City Manager, Anthony L. Shoemaker, is hereby
authorized to take such steps as may be necessary and provide .all information
required in order to develop an agre'_~: er.: 0etween the City of Clearwater
and the Pinellas Anclote Basin Board t.o acquire such property.

3. That a copy of this resolution shall be provided to the Pinellas
Anclote Basin Board.
4. That this resolution shall take effect immediately upon its
adoption.
