VISION CABLE JOINS CAMPAIGN AGAINST TV VIOLENCE
Clearwater, Florida - In answer to growing public concern
about violence on television, Vision Cable of Pinellas, Inc., is
offering cable customers parental lockout devices to give them more
control over the programming in their homes. Vision Cable always
has made this service available to customers who requested it.
Now, however, in conjunction with the cable television industry's
launch this week of its voluntary national campaign called voices
Against violence, Vision Cable is participating locally by making
customers, especially parents, more aware of their options. voices
Against violence involves a rating system for cable programming,
special scheduling for violent programming by cable networks, and
viewer education initiatives.
Vision Cable Vice President and General Manager James Waldo
said, "Our first suggestion is that parents closely monitor what
their children watch on television and try to choose programming
that is appropriate for their family. But to the extent that they
need some control when they can't be there in person, we are trying
to help by providing the option of a parental lockout device. II
The blocking of programming, in most cases, requires a
converter box for which there is a small monthly rental charge.
There is no charge for the parental locking service itself.
