THE FUTURE IS ON CABLE
INDUSTRY SET TO DEMONSTRATE LEADERSHIP IN
TELECOMMUNICATIONS
Pinellas County-- On December 1, 1994, the nation's cable
industry will launch the largest, most comprehensive effort in its
history to establish cable as the leading provider of current and
future telecommunications products and services. Vision Cable is
joining with other cable companies across the country to make new
commitments to customer service, education, and technology.
"These are fast moving times in the telecommunications
industry, said Jim Waldo, Vice President and General Manager, and
the cable industry will be right there leading the way." "We at
Vision Cable are excited to be a part of this industry-wide effort
to demonstrate to consumers our technological capabilities, our
contributions to education, and our commitment to providing the
best possible customer service."
The program, being announced on December 1 at the Western
Show, an annual cable industry trade show, focuses on three major
areas;
Customer Service Guarantees
One way America's cable systems are prenaring for the future
is by improving customer service. The 'cable 'industry has
recognized that if it is to be the acknowledged leader of the "Age
of Information, II it must provide Americans with the customer
service they deserve and expect.
Vision Cable will join in a national customer service program
that demonstrates the cable industry is committed to providing
customers with the best possible service.

'.
starting March 1, 1995, participating systems will pledge the
following:
1. on-time installation or the installation is
free
2. on-time service appointments or the customer
receives $20
Commitments to Education
Building on its long-standing commitment to education, the
industry will demonstrate what cable is doing now and what it will
do in the future - through the use of the industry's technological
capabilities and through a focus on community-based action - to
further education in America.
As part of this commitment to education, Vision Cable will
work with the local educational community on specially-developed
programming and educational events.
Educational Initiatives will include:
cri tical Viewinq WorkshoDs the training of cable
operators and local PTA members to hold workshops that
will teach critical viewing skills in their communities.
The project will be implemented through a partnership
with the National Parent Teachers Association.
Policvmakers in the Classroom a civics-oriented
television program involving local, state, and national
policy makers and opinion leaders that will be provided
to teachers to enhance classroom curriculum.
Cable in Focus - educational events held in cooperation
with the local schools or educational community targeted
to students highlighting cable programming devoted to a
significant event and/or issue, such as Black History
Month in February.
These initiatives, along with others, are an extension of the
cable industry's f i ve-year-old Cable in the Classroom program.
Through Cable in the Classroom the cable industry has already wired
over 64,000 schools serving 35 million students. Cable networks
offer over 500 hours of commercial-free educational programming
each month, which cable operators deliver to schools free of
charge.

Demonstratinq Cable Technology
Cable will also demonstrate that it is uniquely positioned to
be the best provider of current and future telecommunications
services because of the high-tech cable technology already
installed in millions of homes across the country.
Vision Cable and the industry will demonstrate cable's
technological superiority through the following initiatives:
The Tour - A multi-media road show that will travel to
selected cities around the country to give consumers an
opportunity to experience the benefits of new cable
technologies.
Cableflashes - Short infomercials explaining a specific
application of cable's advanced tecr..noloqy, and
highlighting its benefit to the average American~ ;
RoadmaD to the Information SUDerhiqhway - A one-hour
cable special that features concrete examples of the
benefits of cable technologies.
National Commission on Technoloqy and the Next Generation
A working group of leaders in education and
telecommunications that will make recommendations on the
integration of information technology into education.
Vision Cable is participating in this new set of initiatives
to help consumers in Pinellas County understand the benefits of new
communications technologies, and to demonstrate that the future is,
indeed, on cable.
