Welcome & Introductions
Donald Rutledge, Program Coordinator for Career Options of Pinellas, Inc., welcomed attendees and introduced his agency’s staff.
Meeting Purpose
Mr. Rutledge stated the City has contracted Career Options to survey the Brownfields area. He referred to a map showing the boundaries of the targeted area. Career Options will compile
an inventory of existing programs and services available to the target populations, based on information acquired through a survey of individuals and organizations throughout the area.
After gathering the information, Career Options will analyze the data, catalog available programs and services, identify gaps and duplications, and make recommendations to the City
for additional programs to fill those gaps and coordination strategies to minimize duplication. He expressed disappointment at the small turnout at tonight’s public meeting.
Sample Survey Instrument
Phyllis Burch, Career Options Center Director, reviewed the survey forms at length, explaining in detail how to fill out the survey for most effective results. She requested agencies
mail completed surveys in the provided stamped envelopes by July 21, 1997. The final report to the City is due on October 6, 1997. She stressed the importance of ensuring an authorized
individual completes the survey. All participants will be part of the final report. She welcomed telephone calls and write-in questions.
Questions & Answers
Deputy City Manager Rice responded to questions regarding Brownfields: the service area, job and property issues related to cleanup of contaminants, coordination, and implementation
of cleanup efforts. Ms. Rice said the City is excited to have Career Options
coordinate the job search to avoid duplication of efforts and ensure jobs and training are available.
Closing Comments
Mr. Rutledge thanked community members for attending. The meeting adjourned at 7: 20 p.m.
