Vertical Clearance at Crossings:
Gravity sewers ar force mains crossing under water mains shall be laid to provide a mInimum vertical distance of
18 inches between the invert of the upper pipe and the crown of the lower pipe. The crossing shall be arranged
so that the sewer joints and water joints will be equidistant from the point of crossing with no less than la'
between any two joints. Where the minimum 18" separotion cannot be maintained, the sewer shall be placed in a
sleeve or encased in concrete for 20' centered on the point of crossing.
Where there is no alternative to sewer pipes crossing over water mains, the pipes shall be centered at the crossing
as indicated above, and the water main shall be placed in a sleeve or encased in concrete for 20' centered on the
point of crossing. Adequate structural support shall be provided for the sewer to prevent damage to the water
main.
Horizontal Separation Between Parallel Lines:
A. Gravity sewers and storm sewers sholl be installed at least 10' horizontally from any existing or proposed water main.
The distance shall be measured edge to edge. In cases where it is not practical to maintain a la' separation,
the water main shall be installed in a separate trench or on an undisturbed earth shelf located on one side of
the sewer and at an elevation so that the bottom of the water main is at least 18" above the top of the sewer,
and the water and sewer joints shall be staggered.
B. FORCE MAINS shall be installed at least 10' horizontally from any existing or proposed water main,

POTABLE WATER/RECLAIMED WATER SEPARATIONS
When the reclaimed water line is transporting water for public access irrigation:
Maximum obtainable sf., ration of reclaimed water lines and domestic water lines shall be I :ticed. A
minimum horizontal separation of 5' (center to center) or 3' (outside to outside) shall be maintained between
reclaimed water lines and either potable water mains or ,:,:mcge collection lines, An 18" vertical separation
shall be maintained at crossings.
When the reclaimed water line is transporting water for nonpublic access irrigation:
The reclaimed water main shall be treated like a sanitary sewer, and a 10' horizontal and 18" vertical
separation shall be maintained between the reclaimed water main and all existing or proposed potable water
mains, No minimum separation is .required between the reclaimed water main and sanitary sewers, other than
that necessary to ensure structural integrity and protection of the lines themselves,

When it is impossible to obtain proper horizontal and vertical separations as stipulated above, DER may allow
deviation on a case-by-case basis, if supported by data from the design engineer. Approval for the deviation
must be obtained prior to construction.

Vertical Clearance at Crossings:
Gravity sewers or force mains crossing under water mains shall be laid to provide a minImum vertical distance of
18 inches between the invert of the upper pipe and the crown of the lower pipe, The crossing shall be arranged
so that the sewer joints and water joints will be equidistant from the point of crossing with no less than 10'
between any two joints, Where the minimum 18" separation cannot be maintoined, the sewer shall be placed in a
sleeve or encased in concrete for 20' centered on the point of crossing,
Where there is no alternative to sewer pipes crossing over water mains, the pipes shall be centered at the crossing
as indicated above, and the water main shall be placed in a sleeve or encased in concrete for 20' centered on the
point of crossing. Adequate structural support shall be provided for the sewer to prevent damage to the water
main.
Horizontal Separation Between Parallel Lines:
A. Gravity sewers and storm sewers shall be installed at least 10' horizontally from any existing or proposed water main.
The distance shall be measured edge to edge. In cases where it is not practical to maintain a 10' separation,
the water main shall be installed in a separate trench or on an undisturbed earth shelf located on one side of
the sewer and at an elevation so that the bottom of the water main is at least 18" above the top of the sewer,
and the water and sewer joints shall be staggered,

SANITARY SEWER/RECLAIMED WA TER &-
POTABLE WATER/RECLAIMED WATER SEPARATIONS
When the reclaimed water line is transporting water for public access irrigation:
Maximum obtainable separation of reclaimed water lines and domestic water lines shall be practiced. A
minimum horizontal separation of 5' (center to center) or 3' (outside to outside) shall be maintained between
reclaimed water lines and either potable water mains or sewage collection lines. An 18" vertical separation
shall be maintained at crossings,
When the reclaimed water line is transporting water for nonpublic access irrigation:
The reclaimed water main shall be treated like a sanitary sewer, and a 10' horizontal and 18" vertical
separation shall be maintained between the reclaimed water main and all existing or proposed potable water
mains, No minimum separation is required between the reclaimed water main and sanitary sewers, other than
that necessary to ensure structural integrity and protection of the lines themselves.
NOTE:
When it is impossible to obtain proper horizontal and vertical separations as stipulated above, DER may allow
deviation on a case-by-case basis, if supported by data from the design engineer. Approval for the deviation
must be obtained prior to construction,

WATER/SEWER CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS
Vertical Clearance at Crassings:
Gravity sewers or force mains crossing under water mains shall be laid to provide a minImum vertical distance of
18 inches between the invert of the upper pipe and the crown of the lower pipe. The crossing shall be arranged
so that the sewer joints and water joints will be equidistant from the point of crossing with no less than 10'
between any two joints. Where the minimum 18" separation cannot be maintained, the sewer shall be placed in a
sleeve or encased in concrete for 20' centered on the point of crossing.
Where there is no alternative to sewer pipes crossing over water mains, the pipes shall be centered at the crossing
as indicated above, and the water main shalf be placed in a sleeve or encased in concrete for 20' centered on the
point of crossing, Adequate structural support shall be provided for the sewer to prevent damage to the water
main,
Horizontal Separation Between Parallel Lines:
A. Gravity sewers and storm sewers shall be installed at least 10' horizontally from any existing or praposed water main,
The distance shall be measured edge to edge. In cases where it is not practical to maintain aID' separation,
the water main shall be installed in a separate trench or on an undisturbed earth shelf located on one side of
the sewer and at an elevation so that the bottom of the water main is at least 18" above the top of the sewer,
and the water and sewer joints shall be staggered.
B, FORCE MAINS shall be installed at least 10' horizontally fram any existing or proposed water main,
SANITARY SEWER/RECLAIMED WATER &-
POTABLE WATER/RECLAIMED WATER SEPARATIONS
When the reclaimed water line is transporting water for public access irrigation:
Maximum obtainable separation of reclaimed water lines and domestic water lines shall be practiced, A
minimum horizontal separation ~f 5' (center to center) or J' (outside to outside) shall be maintr '...ed between
eclaimed water lines and eith potable water mains or sewage collection lines, An 18" vertical _ ~aration
shall be maintained at crossings,
When the reclaimed water line is transporting water for nonpublic access irrigation:
The reclaimed water main shall be treated like a sanitary sewer, and aID' horizontal and 18" Vet ..cal
separation shall be maintained between the reclaimed water main and all existing or proposed potable water
mains. No minimum separation is required between the reclaimed water main and sanitary sewers, other than
that necessary to ensure structural integrity and protection of the lines themselves.

deviation on a case-by-case basis, if supported
must be obtained prior to construction,
and vertical separations as stipulated above, DER may allow
