The Chair called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. at the Clearwater Executive Golf Course. Mr. Dunbar introduced Mr. Greg McClimans, president of Clearwater Golf Associates, Inc., which is the City’s operator of Clearwater Executive Golf Course since March 1. ITEM #2 – Approval of Minutes of Parks and Recreation Board meeting of May 22, 2000 - Member Swanberg noted the “dog park” mentioned in Item #3 is located in Miami, not Sarasota. With that change, he moved to approve the minutes as corrected. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. ITEM #3 – Correspondence – None ITEM #4 –Old Business Capital Project Update – Mr. Dunbar discussed the status of the following: Countryside Infrastructure Improvement, funding for the addition approved by City Commission; Clearwater Beach Family Aquatic Center, opened June 9; Ray Green Park expansion, property acquisition in progress with opening expected in Fall 2002; McMullen Tennis Complex – Court Renovation, contractor started this date, with 75 days to complete, weather permitting; and Sunset Sam Park at Island Estates, to open June 27. Mr. Dunbar said since McMullen is scheduled for completion September 8, the Board meeting of October 23 will be held there. Upcoming Recreation Events – The July Calendar of Recreation Activities was distributed. Mr. Dunbar pointed out July is recognized as National Recreation and Parks Month. Local events highlighted were July 4th activities at Coachman Park; “Hello Dolly” production at Ruth Eckerd Hall, and opening ceremonies of Sunset Sam Park to which board members have been invited. ITEM #5 – New Business Members were given the new fee schedules for McMullen Tennis Complex. Mr. Dunbar said other fee options being considered are pre-construction discounts and annual fees, which would include discounts. Mr. Dunbar said a new Tennis Supervisor to operate tennis programs throughout the City is currently being recruited. In response to a question from Member Cashman regarding corporate memberships, Mr. Dunbar said the current plan is to operate with the new fee plan then evaluate the operation in six months. Corporate memberships may be explored at that time. In other New Business: Mr. McClimans agreed to a request from Ms. Sandra Clayton to allow youths from the recreation program to spend some time at the Executive Golf Course under a grant from the Juvenile Welfare Board. Member Wiand said music of a religious nature, which some residents found inappropriate, is being broadcast at the gateway. Mr. Dunbar said he would contact Jeff Voss, Electrical Services Supervisor, to investigate and change the format. Responding to member Wiand’s question regarding benches at the new pool, Mr. Chin said they will be PVC over iron and will not retain heat. Member Wiand asked if it were appropriate for the board to take a position on the upcoming referendum. Mr. Dunbar said the board should remain neutral. ITEM #6 Tour of Clearwater Executive Golf Course. Mr. McClimans said he and his partner have spent some $100,000 in improvements to the property and are leasing the operation from the City for $36,000 a year. He led board members on a tour of the facility. ITEM #7 Adjournment The meeting and tour adjourned at 8:25 p.m. The next meeting is July 24 at the Municipal Services Building Conference Room 130.
