CLEARWATER DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT BOARD MEETING
March 2, 2022 — 5:30 PM — City Council Chambers
1. Call to Order. Chair Morfopoulos called the meeting to order at 5:30 pm.

2. Minutes of the February meeting.
2.1. Upon motion duly made by Member Emrani, seconded by Member Kintzel, and carried
unanimously, the minutes of the February 2, 2021, meeting were approved.
3. Citizens to be heard regarding items not on the agenda. There were none.
4. New Business Items
4.1. January 2022 Financial Statement. Upon motion duly made by Member Porbeni, seconded by
Member Novitsky, and carried unanimously, the January 2022 financial statement was
approved.
4.2. Funding request of Tampa Bay Ukulele Society, Inc. (TBUS) Mr. Smith introduced Mr. Robert
Walsh, a member of the TBUS. TBUS will present the Ukulele Festival on April 23, 2022, with
live performances at multiple locations along Cleveland Street 400-500 blocks, including free
clinics and condensed instructional courses. Based on past events, attendance is expected to be
1200-1500. Also, that evening, there will be a reception from 5:00-6:00 at Peace Memorial
with a free concert at 7:00 pm. Staff recommended funding Tess than the original grant request.
Upon motion duly made by Member Cassano, seconded by Member Emrani, and carried
unanimously, the TBUS funding request in the amount of $9,855 was approved.
Mr. Walsh requested an additional $1,250 to assist with the ukelele masters' travel
expenses. Upon motion duly made by Member Emrani, seconded by Member Novitsky, and
carried unanimously, the TBUS funding request in the amount of $1,250 was approved.
5. Old Business

5.1. Clearwater Jazz Holiday (CJH) update. Mr. Smith introduced Mr. Steve Weinberger, CEO, who
thanked the Board for their support and reviewed the October event at Baycare Ballpark as
well as the second Wanderlust Series, November -December 2021 in downtown Clearwater.
5.2. Board ideas to improve Downtown Clearwater. Mr. Smith presented ideas from the Board
discussion at February's meeting in a table format, asking for further direction on behalf of the
staff as to the Board's priorities based so the staff may further research feasibility. Categories
chosen to receive immediate attention were Marketing/Signage and Business Assistance. Mr.
Santiago is addressing Enhancement issues in other ways and will present an update as soon as
possible.
5.3. CRA Update. Ms. Thompson noted that City Council had approved planters and bollards. The
next meeting on the subject will be April 8. That will be followed by the first quarterly meeting
of the downtown groups. March 30, photographer Clyde Butcher will give a talk at the Capitol
Theatre, including a preview of the everglades immersion project. Mr. Butcher's works are on
display in the Clearwater Main Library through May 2022.

• March 19 — Clearwater Hispanic Farmers Market
• March 30 — Lecture with Clyde Butcher at The Capitol Theatre at 7:00 pm, free to the public
6. Board Members to be heard
Member Emrani appreciates the CRA's continued efforts.
Member Porbeni thanked the CRA as well.
Member Kintzel noted the addition of the Hatchet Hangout (709 North Myrtle Avenue) to the
downtown area.
Member Novitsky stated that it's great to see all the activity, she's proud to be a part of it, and
thanked the CRA.
Member Cassano said it's great to see the changes in downtown.
Chair Morfopoulos thanked the CRA for their efforts organizing the Board's thoughts from the last
meeting, and commented on the number of people of gathering in downtown lately, thanking
everyone involved in creating that.
