Surveyors INSTRUCTIONS FOR OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE FOR STORM WATER FACILITY Routine Maintenance ThiS retention/detention pond IS Intended to function as a "dry bottom" faCIlity The preferred ground cover IS grass AU weeds or exotic plant growth should be removed from the retentlon/detentton baSin proper It IS not necessary to remove or alter plant species or growth Within the access easements The grass Within the baSin should be allowed to maintain a length of four (4) to SIX (6) Inches The grass should be mowed monthly duong the months from Apol through October and In December and February Unusually wet or dry years may reqUire va nation of the mowing schedule All debos and grass clippings should be removed from the faCIlity on a weekly baSIS It must be emphaSized to the abuttmg lot owners that they are not to throw grass chpplngs Into the retentlonldetentlon area Along WIth the penodlc mowing operation, the surrace of the sand filter must be checked and kept clear of grass or other plant growth storm DamagelRepair At the beginning of each storm/flood season, and after each Significant storm, the retention/detentIon pond must be Inspected for damage Particular attention must be to the embankments, the outlet works and the Inlets Inspect for sIgns of erOSion, excessive depoSItion of sediments, bUildup of trash or debns, or any other sIgns of damage Any problems found should be addressed Immediately as minor damage can become major If addltronal Significant storm events occur before repaIrs are completed Sediment Removal I I I I I I Retention/detention of storm water runoff In baSins causes sediments to settle within them Sediment depOSItion IS parncularfy severe when land development IS occumng In the tributary watershed The maJonty of the sediment IS expected to occur near the baSin Inlet structure ThiS area should be cleaned annually duong the penod from December through March Additional cleaning may be required as a result of local erosion or because of depoSits discovered dunng "post storm" Inspections Sand Filter At any time when the retention/detention facility requires more than 36 hours to dram substantially dry or at least every two (2) years, the top SIX (6) mches of sand filter media should be removed and replaced With new or thoroughly washed filter media NOTE that replacement medIa must be of the same speCification as the onglnal Spent filter material may be utdlZed to fill eroded banks within the retention area Excess filter media must be disposed In a landfill approved to receive such matenal - These operation and maintenance Instructions must be forwarded to each entity rasp~~~~~I0J~fDJ maintenance and operation of the faCIlity upon transfer of responsibility I ORIGINAL MAR 1 /j 2005 PLAN~~NG /Dl!EPAID'MlE~]' e~w O~ CLlE~RWA~~
