RE: FORT HARRISON HOTEL EXTERIOR RENDV ATIDNS
The mtentwn of all extenor renovatwns to the Fort Harnson Hotel IS to
upgrade and update the hotel from a functwnal standpomt whIle mamtammg
or returnmg It to its ongmal appearance whenever possIble Following are
the mam elements that are beIng restored on the Fort Harrison Hotel to
return the Image of this hlstoncal buildmg to Clearwater.
1. The eXlstmg clay tile roof wIll be removed and replaced with Identical
tile A new clay tIle pitched roof, agam faced with tiles IdentIcal to
those already m eXIstence, WIll be Installed on top of the eXlstmg maIn
elevator tower.
2. All eXisting through-wall AIC UnIts (which now notIceably detract
from the architectural features of the facades) will be removed and m-
filled This agaIn IS a return to the ongmal appearance of the bUIldIng
as none were In eXistence at the time of the hotel's completIOn.
3 New canopIed balcomes will be added as can be seen m the
rendenngs. These balcomes wIll be for appearance only, as they wIll
be non-accessIble
4. New, period accurate architectural elements wIll be added to
embellIsh the East fa9ade above the bridge between the hotel and the
new bU1lding dIrectly across the street as can be seen 10 the
rendenngs.
5. All eXIstmg WIndows throughout wIll be replaced whIch more closely
approximates the ongmal WIndows and more closely matches the
archItectural style of the bUIldmg
6. The entire extenor skin wIll be redone wIth an elastornenc stucco
system called Stucco Flex. The color (contamed m the fimsh coat)
Will match our new buildmg across the street at 215 S. Fort Hamson
Ave All architectural elements such as quoms, balcOnIes, capitals,
and so forth WIll also be the same color as the correspondmg details
on the new bUIldmg, bnngmg contInUIty to the block The lower
sectIOn of the Fort Harrison, from the 3rt] floor down to street level,
,.
or
WIll also match the correspondIng pre-cast color on the new bUildIng,
as can be seen In the rendenng The two buddJng~ will thereby
mtegrate completely.
7 The eXlstmg clay tIle mansard roof at the 3rd floor East elevation wIll
be removed and replaced with a new balustrade system A balustrade
balcony, rather than a mansard roof was an ongmal feature of the
mezzanIne level, so thIS IS another feature that returns the bmldmg to
Its ongmal archItectural style.
8 A new awmng wIll be Installed to replaced the eXIsting one at the
street level East elevatIOn.
9 All eXlstmg archItectural elements wIll remam and be repaned or
replaced where needed

D. WRITTEN SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS: (Code Section 3-913.A)
1. The proposed development of the land WIll be in harmony WIth the scale, bulk,
coverage, density and character of adjacent properties in which it is located.
The scale. bulk. cover~e, densIty and character of the Fort Harrison Hotel will not
be changed except for addItion of decorative elements to the building as shown on
the colored elevations and rendering
2. The proposed development wIll not hinder or discourage the appropriate development
and use of adjacent land and buildings or signIficantly impair the value thereof.
On the contrary. returning the Fort Harrison hotel buildmg to a look closer to the
original look when it was built should only enhance the area and increase the
value of adiacent properties.
3. The proposed development will not adversely affect the health or safety or persons

intersection crossing. The additional parking at the garage for the new FI~
Building across the street will be available to the Fort Hamson guests if ever
needed.
5 The proposed development is consistent wIth the community character of the

Re: Development Order - Case FLS2004-07055 Fort Harrison Hotel ExtensIOn
Dear Mr. Delk,
As dIscussed in several meeting, we will be emptying the Fort Harrison hotel
for renovabons m a few months when the Oak Cove property IS completed for thIS
phase I mtenm use.
WIth thIS strategy, the start of the major renovation work has been delayed,
but it will go much faster once started because the building will not be occupied.
Due to this fact we are requestIng an extension of the above Development
Order for an addIuonal one year.
If addIuonal informatIOn is needed on this please contact me at any time at
