A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER,
FLORIDA URGING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO
CONDUCT A DEFINITIVE STUDY OF THE HEALTH
EFFECTS OF 5G TECHNOLOGY AND TO DEVELOP
INSTALLATION GUIDELINES, IF NECESSARY
WHEREAS, small cell wireless equipment is designed to boost cellular service
through 5G technology of which many have raised concerns about the health risks; and
WHEREAS, it appears that no federal agency has conducted a widely accepted,
definitive scientific study of the health impacts of any extremely high or "millimeter
wave" frequencies above 24GHz; and
WHEREAS, it is the City of Clearwater's understanding that current Federal
Communication Commission standards for radio-frequency radiation emissions have
not been updated since 1996, except for regulations to facilitate installation of 5G
technology equipment; and
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater believes it is in the best interest of its
residents and visitors, as well as of all citizens, for the Federal Government to initiate a
scientific review of the health and economic impact of 5G technology
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City of Clearwater, Florida, urges the Congress of the United States to
authorize and fund a federal study on the health impacts of small cell wireless and 5G
technology and to develop nationwide guidelines for the installation of such technology
that will protect and serve the public and the nation, if such study is found not to impact
adversely the public's well-being.
Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
