Due to a lack of a quorum, no official business was transacted at the meeting. The members informally discussed the following items:
The discussion began at 5:35 p.m.
The members discussed sending agendas to the following organizations: AARP, American Association of University Women, International Association for Religious Freedom, churches, synagogues
and mosques. Flyers should be published in English and Spanish and should be distributed at the Hispanic Outreach Center.
The members agreed that the role of a study circle sponsor group or agency would be to lend its name to the project and to encourage its membership to attend the study circle meetings.
Study circle meetings will be held on October 7, 14, 21, and 28, 2003. The first three meetings will be held at the Martin Luther King Center. The fourth meeting will be held at the
Countryside Recreation Center. Meetings are scheduled from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The City Manager has approved funding for light refreshments at the meetings.
On the fourth meeting night, discussion groups will submit reports and a small celebration will be held.
Study circle participants would be encouraged to attend all four meetings; however, participants are welcome to join the group at a later meeting. People wishing to participate in the
study circles will be asked to RSVP.
Suggestions for publicizing the study circle meetings: Events calendars in newspapers, and on television news programs; news media coverage, including C-View (City of Clearwater Channel
15); getting schools involved; distribute flyers through the library system; post on Clearwater Convention Bureau website.
Roy Kaplan announced that the National Conference for Community and Justice will be facilitating a similar study circle program on September 9, 2003 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Pasco-Hernando
Community College, on Ridge Road in New Port Richey.
Roy Kaplan will develop an evaluation and feedback form, which will be distributed to study circle participants at the first and last meeting of the series. The form will also ask participants
how they heard about the study circle program and survey them as to preferred days and times for future study circle programs.
It was suggested that sponsoring groups help with car pools so that people would not be kept away from the program because of a lack of transportation.
Roy Kaplan suggested that C-View tape the sessions. Eleanor Breland said that she would check into that possibility.
Eleanor Breland asked the members and volunteers for their comments on the information sheet provided by Ken Cissna. It was affirmed by everyone.
The discussion was concluded at 6:30 p.m.
