06/12/1995 CITY COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING
Strategic Planning Session
June 12, 1995
The City Commission of the City of Clearwater met in a strategic planning session at City Hall, Monday, June 12, 1995 at 5:49 p.m., with the following members present:
Rita Garvey Mayor/Commissioner
Sue A. Berfield Vice-Mayor/Commissioner
Fred A. Thomas Commissioner
J. B. Johnson Commissioner
Also present:
Elizabeth M. Deptula City Manager
Kathy S. Rice Deputy City Manager
Pamela K. Akin City Attorney
Cynthia E. Goudeau City Clerk
The City Manager indicated it is important for staff to have direction. For next year's budget she has asked the departments to set goals regarding Economic Development, Tourism and
Public Safety. She recommended setting aside time for strategic planning but this wait until the budget process is out of the way. She felt it would be advantageous to set aside entire
days or a weekend for the strategic planning process. She emphasized we need to set the City's future.
Commissioner Thomas stated he believed in strategic planning but felt it should wait until after the Special Election in October. He felt a three day "crash" is needed. He did not
believe he would have picked the areas for budget goals any differently than the City Manager had.
Mayor Garvey agreed the process needed to stop being piece mealed.
Commissioner Johnson stated we need to come up with the essentials that govern the City.
It was the consensus to set aside time, possibly a weekend, in mid-November for Strategic Planning.
The meeting adjourned at 5:57 p.m.
