To provide continuity for research, items are listed in agenda order although not
necessarily discussed in that order.
1. Call to Order— Chair Geller
The meeting was called to order at 12:23 pm at City Hall.
2. Citizens to be Heard Regarding Items Not on the Agenda — None.
3. Approval of Minutes
Member Miller moved to approve the minutes of the February 3, 2016
Nuisance Abatement Board meeting as submitted in written
summation by the City Clerk. The motion was duly seconded and
carried unanimously.
4. New Business
4.1 Review purpose and process of the Board.
Assistant City Attorney Rob Surette reviewed the purpose and process of
the board.
Major Gandy explained that once the board was established and nuisance
properties were identified, officers worked on a follow up process which
engaged the special investigations unit. He explained the board has not
had to meet as the nuisance abatement process has been working. Once
property owners are notified of an issue, the Assistant City Attorney and
District Commander meet with and educate them on different strategies to

manage any illegal activity taking place such as surveillance cameras and
established visitor parking for apartments/motels; in the case of an
absentee owner, they have worked with property managers. He said the
departments objective is to achieve compliance at the lowest possible
level. Property owners/managers have been very responsive up to this
point in attempting to comply and are open to the departments assistance
and suggestions.
Lt. Connors provided a PowerPoint presentation. In response to
questions, he said officers are attempting to negate any issues and if a
case comes before this board, it is not for lack of effort. He said there has
been a reduction in violations in the N. Ft. Harrison area and are working
on some other areas in East Gateway.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:30 p.m.
