07/12/2007 PENSION ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES CITY OF CLEARWATER July 12, 2007 Present: Nathan Hightower Chair – arrived 9:06 a.m. John Schmalzbauer Committee Member John Doran Committee Member/Councilmember Stephen Sarnoff Committee Member Paul Gibson Committee Member/Councilmember Absent: Tom Jensen Vice-Chair Carlen Petersen Committee Member/Councilmember Also Present: Joe Roseto Human Resources Director Patricia O. Sullivan Board Reporter Acting Chair Schmalzbauer called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall. To provide continuity for research, items are in agenda order although not necessarily discussed in that order. 2 - Approval of Minutes Member Doran moved to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of June 14, 2007, motion as submitted in written summation to each board member. The was duly seconded and carried unanimously. 3 – Employees to be Heard – None. 4 – Action Items: a. Review and Action on Employee Requests for Regular Pensions: 1. Timothy Treble, Police 2. John Correll, Public Utilities 3. Lester Pulfer, Solid Waste 4. Lloyd Wentz, Police 5. Yacub A. Bilal, Engineering Member Sarnoff moved to approve the requests for regular pensions for Timothy Treble, motion John Correll, Lester Pulfer, Lloyd Wentz, and Yacub A. Bilal. The was duly seconded carried and unanimously. Pension Advisory 2007-07-12 1 b. Review and Action on Employee Request to Vest Pensions 1. Robyn Haywood Thomas, Fire Robyn Haywood Thomas, Fire, has resigned her position after being employed by the City for more than 11 years. She will qualify to receive her reduced pension beginning June 1, 2016. 2. David Nardin, Development & Neighborhood Services David Nardin, Development & Neighborhood Services, has resigned his position after being employed by the City for more than 13 years. He will qualify to receive his reduced pension beginning September 1, 2018. 3. Kevin Slattery, Public Utilities Kevin Slattery, Public Utilities, has resigned his position after being employed by the City for more than 21 years. He will qualify to receive his pension beginning March 1, 2015. Member Doran moved to approve the requests by Robyn Haywood Thomas, David motion carried Nardin, and Kevin Slattery to vest their pensions. The was duly seconded and unanimously. c. Approval of New Hires as Plan Members: Member Sarnoff moved to accept the following employees into membership in the Pension Plan: Pension Eligible Name, Job Class, & Dept./Div Hire Date Date John McDowell, Police Communications Operator/Police 04/30/07 04/30/07 Fatos Pojani, Electronics Technician/Public Utilities 06/11/07 06/11/07 Richard Rozzi, Solid Waste Worker/Solid Waste/General Svcs 06/11/07 06/11/07 Brian Whitehead, Police Officer/Police 06/11/07 06/11/07 Douglas Ambrose. Police Officer/Police 06/11/07 06/11/07 Ronald Wichowski, WWTP Operator Trainee/Public Utilities 06/25/07 06/25/07 motioncarried The was duly seconded and unanimously. 5 – Pending/New Business Human Resources Director Joe Roseto requested that the committee schedule a job- connected disability hearing for Chase Vacarro in August. Member Sarnoff moved to schedule a job-connected disability hearing for Chase motion carried Vacarro on August 9, 2007. The was duly seconded and unanimously. Concerns were expressed that similar injuries do not prevent other employees from working nor athletes from competing. Pension Advisory 2007-07-12 2 6 - Director's Reports: Mr. Roseto congratulated Members Schmalzbauer and Jensen on their reelection to the Committee. Mr. Roseto reported a Special Trustees meeting to discuss Pension Plan investments is scheduled for August 13, 2007, at 4:00 p.m. Pension Attorney Kaufman will attend. 7 - Committee Members to be Heard Member Sarnoff said he was absent last month due to his lobbying efforts during the Special Session in Tallahassee. Member Doran congratulated members on their reelection.
