#2 Approval of Minutes of April 6, 2005 ? Member France moved to approve the minutes of the regular
motioncarried
meeting of April 6, 2005 as submitted. The was duly seconded and unanimously.
#3 New Business ? Member France encouraged members to attend tonight?s meeting of the Pinellas Chapter of
the Florida Native Plant Society at Moccasin Lake Park from 7:30pm-9:30pm. The meeting is free and opened
to the public.
Ms. France informed members about an opportunity to partner with Pinellas County to improve a piece of
property at the southeast corner of South Mars and Rainbow Drive, adjacent to the eastern boundary of Keene
Road. Ms. France participated in many conversations with both county and city staff regarding the future usage
of this property and methods in which the community could become involved with its enhancement. Ms. France
suggests this land could serve as a Pocket Park in which native plants, butterfly gardens and an array of foliage
could be used to establish a park that would require only minimal maintenance. Ms. France spoke with Ms.
Walbolt, Cultural Affairs Manager about incorporating decorative concrete stoops within the park area. The
majority of the work could be done through volunteers and children?s group. Not only would it present an
educational element for the area, but also aid in clean air management along the Keene Road extension. Ms.
France will continue this endeavor and keep members informed.
Ms. Avrin inquired as to the ownership of the design plans for North and South Venus Road. Ms. Frances
discovered Pinellas County is in charge of the landscaping for the medians along that road. City of Clearwater
has improved the stretch of land along the golf course.
