A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER,
FLORIDA, REQUESTING FEDERAL ASSISTANCE IN THE
RESTORATION OF STORM RAVAGED BEACHES IN
PINELLAS COUNTY; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Hurricane Opal spawned high winds and waves which had a
devastating effect on the Federal Erosion Control Project in Pinellas County;
and
WHEREAS, Beach Erosion has caused a fifty to sixty foot regression of the
shoreline within the communities of Clearwater, Belleair Beach, Belleair Shores, Indian
Rocks Beach, Indian Shores, Redington Shores, North Redington Beach, Treasure
Island and St. Pete Beach; and
WHEREAS, the aforementioned communities are all completed Federal Beach
Restoration Projects; and
WHEREAS, Public law 8499 provides that the Federal Government can restore
a completed Federal project to its pre -storm event; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is urged to initiate the proper
procedures to enact Public Law 8499 whereby authorization and funding can be obtained
for the emergency restoration of the various Federal Beach Restoration Projects in
Pinellas County.
