Long Range Planning Manager Gina Clayton said the purpose of this meeting is to discuss where the Committee is going with the NCOD Study Committee process. She said some members moved out of the neighborhood and can no longer serve on the Committee; others have experienced personal situations. Since there was no quorum at the last meeting, staff is requesting the Committee’s input regarding continuation on the Committee. Concern was expressed that poor attendance and a lack of response to e-mails and telephone calls from staff indicate a lack of enthusiasm and commitment from Study Committee members. Staff questioned if the Committee wishes to continue with the process and if so, what the Committee’s level of commitment would be. She said the Study Committee is not assuming the leadership role that was expected of them. It was felt that a minimum of 7 members should attend all meetings. It was remarked that due to the terrorism tragedy in September and other personal commitments and situations, some members were unable to attend meetings. Assistant Planning Director Lisa Fierce said the City has a higher expectation of the Study Committee than has been exhibited. She said it is important for the Committee to be more active in this role, as members are the cheerleaders of their neighborhood. She said the Study Committee needs to attend the NCOD public meetings. It was remarked that this is third time staff has had to ask members of their commitment. It was suggested that City staff remind Study Committee members of meetings. It also was suggested: 1) staff contact members not present at this meeting to determine their intent to participate in future meetings; 2) appoint some alternate members; and 3) Committee members ensure staff has their correct e-mail addresses, as that was the agreed upon method of communication between staff and the Committee. Member Boksen moved to continue with the process. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. Members were asked to remain after the meeting to participate in the NCOD public meeting when the public split into groups to discuss/add to the “strengths and weaknesses” list. The meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
