10/24/2001 - Neighborhood Conservation Overlay District MeetingNEIGHBORHOOD CONSERVATION OVERLAY DISTRICT MEETING October 24, 2001 St. Brendan’s Church, 245 Dory Passage, Clearwater The meeting was opened by Study Committee Member Curtis Waldon at 7:09 p.m. at St. Brendan’s Church, 245 Dory Passage, Clearwater. ITEM #1 – Welcome – Study Committee Mr. Waldon introduced members of the Island Estates NCOD Study Committee that were present: Angus McNeeley, Dan Molino, Lars Warn, Kirk Waldon, Phylis Boksen, Fran Briskman, and Chuck Stebbins. Also present were Assistant Planning Director Lisa Fierce, Long Range Planning Manager Gina Clayton, Neighborhood Services Coordinator Melody Benbow, Planner Lochen Wood, Neighborhood Services Coordinator Julie Gomez, and Board Reporter Brenda Moses. Ms. Boksen said the annual Island Estates meeting is scheduled for November 7, 2001, and the holiday party is on November 30, 2001. Invitations to the holiday party will be mailed. The annual lighted boat parade is scheduled for December 8, 2001. Anyone wishing to participate in the parade can contact Joel Briskman. Brochures are available. Mr. Waldon said the purpose of tonight’s meeting is to develop an evaluation of neighborhood goals and possible policies to implement them. ITEM #2 – Overview of Last Public Meeting – Melody Benbow, Neighborhood Services Coordinator Neighborhood Services Coordinator Melody Benbow reviewed the results of the last public meeting held on October 10, 2001. Citizens had been asked to choose 3 of their top neighborhood “strengths and weaknesses” which were added to the former list. Items were incorporated into broader categories to encompass a wide range of strengths and weaknesses. ITEM #3 – Development of Neighborhood Goals and Objectives – Small Group Discussions From 7:21 to 8:30 p.m. meeting attendees broke into smaller groups. Ms. Benbow asked participants to keep in mind 3 key concepts: 1) strengths; 2) weaknesses; and 3) neighborhood goals and objectives. She encouraged them to consider the neighborhood’s problems, goals, and objectives. ITEM #4 – Adjourment The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
