ITEM #1 - Call to Order - Mr. Fletcher called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. at the Ross Norton Recreation
Complex, 1426 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.
To provide continuity for research, items are in agenda order although not necessarily discussed in that
order.
ITEM #2 - Approval of Minutes of Parks and Recreation Board Meeting of March 28, 2005 - Mr. Swanberg
moved to approve the minutes as submitted to members. The motion was duly seconded and carried.
Mr. Dunbar introduced Mark Richardson, supervisor of Ross Norton, who has been involved in designing the
new complex since its inception. Mr. Dunbar said demolition of the old facility begins the week of May 9, and
ribbon cutting for the new facility is scheduled May 21. Board members are cordially invited to attend and be
recognized at the ceremony. Those planning to attend should notify Ms. Marsha Beall. Mr. Dunbar noted the
new complex/skate park is part of a broader plan to link together Ed Wright Park, Lake Belleview and the
Pinellas Trail. Lake Belleview is to be enlarged by five acres to accommodate storm water drainage.
ITEM #3 - Tour of the Facility - Mr. Dunbar and Mr. Richardson led members on a tour of the new complex.
Not on the Agenda - Mr. Dunbar reported the recent concert weekend kicking off Fun "n Sun was highly
successful. The Smooth Jazz concert experienced record attendance, and the Steppenwolf performance also did
well.
Mr. Dunbar said member Whitcomb has been appointed to represent the board on the Senior Center Task Force.
The task force will meet April 26 at the Long Center.
Ms. Wiand wanted to go on record as opposing current parking on the causeway. She said it is not good for the
environment and the City should not continue to grant this temporary access.
