10/19/2005 . CITY COUNCIL VISIONING SESSION MINUTES CITY OF CLEARWATER October 19, 2005 Present: Frank Hibbard William C. Jonson Hoyt P. Hamilton - John Doran Carlen Peterson Mayor Vice-Mayor Councilmember Councilmel1iber Councilmember Also present: Bill Horne Garry Brumback City Manager Assistant City Manager The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. at the Long Center. Approximately 15 residents were in attendance. Introduction to the Visioning Process James Moore, PhD. requested participants consider what Clearwater should become as it matures, and their vision for the future. He reviewed demographic, economic, and technological changes that impact Clearwater's future. Dr. Moore said the goal is to create a vision and make growth prediciabie. SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) Analysis . Citizens broke up into groups and listed City strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Each group then presented its biggest concern. Elements of the Visjon - Dr. Moore reviewed the current vision and citizens provided input regarding elements of -- the Vision. Ranking the Elements Participants ranked the elements of the vision. Developing a Vision Statement Participants developed a Vision Statement: "EncOmpassing Old Tampa Bay, Clearwater Harbor, and the Gulf of Mexico, Clearwater is a city all about the water. It is an active community, a great place to live, work, learn and visit, with a vibrant, revitalized downtown and clean and green neighborhoods with lush sub-tropical landscaping. Tourist, family and pedestrian friendly this growing community is health conscious, economically vibrant, socially diverse and increasingly prosperous!"
