Ladies and Gentlemen,
The Historic Bayview Association (HBA) recently received the attached materials from the
FDOT (Florida Department of Transportation) Pinellas County Maintenance Office. The
materials show that FDOT required the Marriott Hotel - which is now under construction on
the north side of State Road 60, just west of the McMullen Booth Road/49th Street Bridge
intersection - to extend the concrete median island westward, in order to prevent left-in
and left-out turns between the Marriott site and State Road 60.
HBA is very concerned about the public safety of left-in and left-out turns in this area.
One of the principal elements of the City of Clearwater's "One City One Future" program, is
building concrete median islands in State Road 60.
But the City has not yet built any of the median islands in this area, the portion of State
Road 60 east of U.S. 19.
In the interest of protecting the public safety of Clearwater inhabitants, which is the
Commission's primary responsibility under its Charter, HBA requests that the Commission
finish the State Road 60 "One City One Future" element, by building the "One City One
Future" median islands in the portion of State Road 60 east of u.s. 19.
