10/15/1990 TRUSTEES OF THE EMPLOYEES' PENSION FUND MEETING October 15, 1990 The City Commission, meeting as the Board of Trustees of the Employees Pension Fund, met in regular session at City Hall, Monday, October 15, 1990 at 9:05 A.M., with the following members present: Rita Garvey Chairperson Lee Regulski Trustee William Nunamaker Trustee Richard Fitzgerald Trustee Sue Berfield Trustee Also Present were: Ron H. Rabun City Manager Milton A. Galbraith, Jr. City Attorney Cynthia E. Goudeau City Clerk ITEM #2 - Minutes: Trustee Berfield moved to approve the minutes of the October 1, 1990, meeting. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. ITEM #3 - Request for Acceptance into Membership: The City Manager presented the recommendation of the Pension Advisory Committee to approve membership for the employee(s) listed below: a) Gary Johnson b) Scott Dawson c) Donald Griffith d) John Cavaliere, Jr. e) J. Kevin Insco f) Michael Stewart g) Paulette Perkins h) Michael Stoessel i) Michael Kachurik j) Harold Stanberry, Jr. k) Larry Harbert l) Thomas Fisherkeller m) Richard Ingle n) Teresa Eturaspe Trustee Berfield moved to accept the recommendation of the Pension Advisory Committee. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. ITEM #4 - Request for Pension: The City Manager presented the recommendation of the Pension Advisory Committee that the employee(s) listed below be granted a job-connected Disability pension under Section 26.35 and/or 26.27 of the Employees' Pension Plan. a) John Greiner Mr. Greiner injured himself while lowering a man down into a manhole on November 29, 1988, while working for the City. It is the opinion of two physicians that Mr. Greiner's disability is permanent. Trustee Regulski questioned if there was other work John Greiner could undertake. The City Manager responded Mr. Greiner has tried but can not work without alot of pain. Trustee Regulski moved to accept the recommendation of the Pension Advisory Committee. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. b) Michael Dandaneau Mr. Dandaneau injured his lower back on September 22, 1987, when he fell while adjusting an office chair at work. He has not been back to work on a prolonged basis since this accident. Subsequent to this accident, Mr. Dandaneau was struck across his lower back with a cane. However, the Doctors feel the disability is from the original accident and not the subsequent injury. Trustee Nunamaker questioned how a doctor can determine the original injury caused the disability. H. M. Laursen, Personnel Director, responded it is very difficult however the doctor would have the medical records to review. Trustee Regulski questioned if Mr. Dandaneau's position is considered as a certified police officer and it was stated he is a Communications Operator. The Personnel Director stated Mr. Dandaneau is often bed ridden even now. Trustee Regulski moved to accept the recommendation of the Pension Advisory Committee. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. ITEM #5 - Other Business: None. ITEM #6 - Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 9:10 a.m.
