12/04/1989 TRUSTEES OF THE EMPLOYEES' PENSION FUND MEETING December 4, 1989 The City Commission, meeting as the Board of Trustees of the Employees Pension Fund, met in regular session at City Hall, Monday, December 4, 1989 at 9:19 A.M., with the following members present: Rita Garvey Chairperson Lee Regulski Trustee Don Winner Trustee William Nunamaker Trustee Richard Fitzgerald Trustee Also Present were: Ron H. Rabun City Manager Milton A. Galbraith, Jr. City Attorney Cynthia E. Goudeau City Clerk ITEM #2 - Minutes: Trustee Winner moved to approve the minutes of the November 13, 1989, meeting. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. ITEM #3 - Pension to be granted: a) Susan Gryncewicz - Former Police Communications Officer - Police Department. Ms. Gryncewicz has requested a job-connected disability. She is a former police officer and injured her hand while practicing at the pistol range. The condition has continued which prevents her from being a police officer and although she took a position as a Police Communications Operator, her injury also prevents her from being able to perform this duty. The doctors have certified that she is 30-35% disabled. A question was raised regarding whether or not our disability pension is graduated to take into account disabilitiy other than 100%. H.M. Laursen, Personnel Director, indicated that the pension plan does not address this, however, it can be part of the proposed changes to the pension plan. b) Johnny Jones - Maintenance Worker I - Public Works Transportation Group Mr. Jones injured his back while picking up a wheel stop in a parking lot. He did have surgery to his back however, this has failed to correct the problem. Trustee Regulski moved to grant job-connected disability pensions. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. ITEM #4 - Amendment to Pension Vested Date: a) Michael Stuart - Former Police Officer Mr. Stuart resigned after serving more than ten years and was eligible to vest his pension. His vesting was originally approved on April 17, 1989 with an effective date of October 2, 1992. It has since been determined that the actual effective date should be April 2, 1993, since Mr. Stuart had not been a pension plan participant for his first six months of employment and when provided an opportunity to buy back the six months, he waived his right to this. A question was raised regarding whether or not we need to check all the records and it was indicated that we are doing so. Trustee Regulski moved to amend the pension vested date of Michael Stuart from October 2, 1992 to April 2, 1993. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. ITEM #5 - Other Business: Trustee Winner stated he appreciated having the minutes of the Pension Advisory Committee attached in order to explain items to the Trustees. ITEM #6 - Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 9:29 A.M.
