02/29/1988 TRUSTEES OF THE EMPLOYEES' PENSION FUND MEETING February 29, 1988 The City Commission, meeting as the Board of Trustees of the Employees Pension Fund, met in regular session at the City Hall, Monday, February 29,1988, at 9:03 a.m., with the following members present: Rita Garvey Mayor/Commissioner James Berfield ViceMayor/Commissioner (Arrived 9:06 a.m.) Lee Regulski Commissioner Don Winner Commissioner William Nunamaker Commissioner Also Present were: Joseph R. McFate, II Interim City Manager Milton A. Galbraith, Jr. City Attorney Cynthia Goudeau City Clerk ITEM #2  Minutes  Commissioner Winner moved to approve the minutes of the February 16, 1988, meeting. `Motion` was duly seconded and `carried` unanimously. ITEM #3  Recommendation of the Pension Advisory Committee. a. `Request for Acceptance into Membership` The Interim City Manager presented the recommendation of the Advisory Committee to approve membership for five (5) employees listed below: `Name` `Classification` `Department` Deborah Bolte Groundskeeper I Parks & Rec. Steven Paul Police Recruit II Police Deborah Storey Police Ser. Tech. Police Gary Angell Maintenance Worker I Pub. Wks./Pub. Ser. Wendy Foley Librarian II Libraries Commissioner Winner moved to accept the recommendation of the Advisory Committee. `Motion` was duly seconded and `carried` unanimously. b. `Request for Pension.` The Interim City Manager presented the recommendation of the Advisory Committee, General Employees' Pension Fund that the employee listed below be granted a nonjobconnected Disability Pension under Section 26.34 of the Employees' Pension Plan. Frederick Woodard, Firefighter, Fire Department, to be effective on March 30, 1987, at an amount to be calculated by the Finance Department. In response to a question, it was indicated that a physical fitness program had been tried in the Fire Department but it had met with Union resistance. Commissioner Winner moved to accept the recommendation of the Advisory Committee. `Motion` was duly seconded and `carried` unanimously. ITEM #4 Other Business. The Personnel Director indicated the Pension Advisory Committee is requesting the Trustees obtain an Attorney General opinion regarding it being a conflict of interest for the City Commission to serve as Pension Trustees. Consensus was to request an updated opinion. Commissioner Regulski questioned the status of resolving the 45 year age limitation. It was reported that no progress had been made other than receiving a positive indication from FOP. It was requested we attempt to get responses from the unions and resolve this question.
