ITEM #2 – 609 ½ Alden Avenue, Clearwater; Esther C. Hunt – Owner, Al Goldsmith - Representative. To request an appeal of building official’s decision of Section 47.161 of the Code of
Ordinances and the Standard Unsafe Building Code. Located at Bidwell’s Oak Wood Add., Lot 62 less east .33 feet. Parcel #09-29-15-08622-000-0620.
Building Construction Inspector Bill Wright reported requests related to Items #1 and #2 had been withdrawn and the items have been pulled.
ITEM #3 – 610 Woodlawn Street, Clearwater; Ronald Brumshagen – Owner, Frank M. Randazzo - Representative. To request an extension of time requiring demolition or repair to structure.
Time is needed to compile estimates, a release of insurance funds, and possible financing for cost shortfalls. Located at Belleair Highlands, Blk D, Lots 35 & 36. Parcel #21-29-15-06948-004-0350.
On December 30, 1999, the City cited the rear building, Units 3 and 4, at 610 Woodlawn Street as an unsafe structure and posted the property. The property has two duplex structures.
A fire in the rear building destroyed one duplex unit and severely damaged the other. Related problems include smoke damage to the outside siding and interior destruction including
severe fire damage to the heater, electric wires, walls, wall studs, ceiling, and entry. Mr. Wright distributed photograph sheets from the Unsafe Structure Report, dated December 30,
1999.
Frank Randazzo, representative, said he recently had taken over management of this property. He said insurance company claim requirements have been met to demolish the rear duplex.
He said a signed contract to raze and clear the structure has been sent air express to California for the property owner’s signature. He said demolition work should be completed within
4 weeks. He said future plans for the site have not been determined.
Mr. Wright said contacting the owner was delayed, as the County’s property tax records did not reflect Al Goldsmith’s correct address. He said Mr. Randazzo has power of attorney to
represent the property owner before the City. The project will require an asbestos survey, demolition and grub permits, plus a permit to cut and cap the sewer line. Mr. Wright said
while the structure does not comply with Code, it is boarded, secured, and sits back from the street. He concurred a 60-day extension to complete the demolition process seems fair.
Member Walker moved to approve a 60-day extension from April 12, 2000 to June 11, 2000 to complete the demolition of Units 3 and 4 at 610 Woodlawn Street to meet Section 47.161 City
Code of Ordinances regarding unsafe buildings. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously.
ITEM #4 – Approval of Minutes
Member Corcoran moved to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of February 9, 2000, as recorded and submitted in written summation to each board member. The motion was duly seconded
and carried unanimously.
ITEM #5 - Adjournment
The meeting adjourned at 2:17 p.m.
