Dear Mr. Boivin:
On September 13, 2004, the Planning Staff reviewed your application for a
Comprehensive Sign Program to enable signage as follows:
1. Attached Sign, 74.66 square feet and 0.003 percent of the south building fa~ade.
2. Attached Sign, 67.19 square feet and 0.0031 percent of the east building fa~ade.
There is an existing freestanding sign on site that will not require a sign permit for
changing the sign face and adding the street address number to the sign base (see
photograph illustration with specifications date received August 27, 2004). There is an
existing Hilton logo made of effice (south elevation), which is proposed to remain.
The application for the Comprehensive Sign Program has been approved for the signs as
submitted, subject to the following conditions:
Condition of Approval:
1. Channel letters are to follow the typical sign construction specifications shown on
sheets 7 and 13 within the plan set. Channel letters are to be blue in color, as
stated within the typical sign construction specifications.

Pursuant to Section 4-303, an application for a building permit shall be made within one
(1) year of the date of this Development Order (September 13, 2005). All required
building approvals shall be obtained within one (1) year of the date of issuance of the
initial building permit. Permitted time frames do not change with successive owners.
The approval is based on and must adhere to the submittal materials date stamp received
April 29, 2004 and August 27,2004.
The issuance of this Development Order does not relieve you of the necessity to obtain
any building permits or pay any fees that may be required. In order to facilitate the
issuance of any permit or license affected by this approval, please bring a copy of this
letter with you when applying for any permits or licenses that require this prior
development approval.

4. Total Area of Sign Faces, Height, Area, Number and Location of Signs. The height, area, number and location of
sign~ permitted through the Comprehensive Sign Program shall be determined by the Community Development
Coordinator based On the following criteria; overall size of site, relationship between the building setback and sign
location. frontage, access and visibility to the site, intended traffic circulation pattern, hierarchy of signage. scale and USe

There is an existing freestanding sign on site that will not require a sign permit for
changing the sign face and adding the street address number to the sign base (see

existing Hilton logo made of effice (south elevation), which is proposed to remain.
The application for the Comprehensive Sign Program has been approved for the signs as
submitted, subject to the following conditions:

1. Channel letters are to follow the typical sign construction specifications shown on

April 29, 2004 and August 27,2004.
The issuance of this Development Order does not relieve you of the necessity to obtain
any building permits or pay any fees that may be required. In order to facilitate the

The purpose of this e-mail is to develop a key distribution list for all who
will be involved in changing our marquee sign. We understand, through
experience, the necessary steps involved in the process and want to be sure
the City of Clearwater and our exterior sign vendor are" on the same page".
The key players on this distribution list are:

Michael H. Reynolds, AICP, Senior planner for the City of Clearwater
Bob Walter, General Manager Hilton
Bill Waichulis, Director of Operations, Hilton
Tommy Lewis, Controller, Hilton
Chas Cassino, Chief Engineering
Bill and I met with Michael Reynolds this afternoon to discuss the avenues
we have to take to begin the process. It is our understanding Michael is
going to determine our zone and the ordinances attached to it and then see
if we qualify for the Comprehensive sign program available through the city.
It is obviously beneficial for our sign vendor to contact the city directly
for their requirements in reference to the project i.e. all permits,
variance fees, sealed engineering drawings, electrical connections,
fabrication, delivery, installation removal/disposition of existing sign
etc. turning this into a turn-key project, this should be accounted for and
included in the costs associated with Acken's signs proposal.
