1. Archi~ctu...1 Theme. The dasign, character, location and/or materials of all freestandlna and attached signs proposed
In a comprehensiva $l9n program shall be demonstrably more attractive than signs otherwi8e plilnnitted on the parcel
proposed for development under the minimum signs standards. All signs must be architecturally integrated intolwith the
design of the building and/or site using similar and coordinated design features, materials and colo/'S, etc.
All signage directly color coordinates to the buildin~ desi~n and to the national
identified character of Chick-fil-A, Inc.
2. Height. The height of all freestanding signs proposed through the Comprehensive Sign Program shall relate to the
design of the sign and shall not exceed 14 feet in height.
We have elected to stay below the 14' allowed height so as to be sensitive to the
community and the minimum for our customer awareness.
3. Lighting. Any lighting proposed as a part of a Comprehensive Sign Program is automatically controlled so that th$
lighting is turned off wnen the business Is closed.
The illumination of all signage, is controlled by automatic timers that are within
the restaurant's power station.

4. Total ANa of SIgn F.cea. Height Are8, Number and Location of Signs. The height, ares, number and location of
algns pennitted through the Comprehensive Sign Program shall be determined by the Community Development
Coordinator based on the following criteria: overall size of site, relationship between the building setback end sign
location, frontage, aCC$$$ and lIIslblllty to the site, intended traffic circulatlon pattern, hierarchy of slgnBge. scale and use
of the project, and submittal of a master sign plan for the development parcellproject. Additionally, the maximum
permitted sign area shall be based on the foIlowfng fonnula when evaluated against the above criteria:
I. Attached signs - The maximum area permitted for attached slgnage shall range from one percent up to I!I meximum
of six percent of the building ~e to which the sign Is to be attached.
II. Freestanding signs - The maximum permitted area of all freestanding signs on a site shall not exceed the range of

We have designed the signage to be subtle as well as visual so as to not create

6. Property Values. The slgnage proposed in the Comprehensive Sign Program will not have an adverse Impact on the "
value of the property in the Immediate vicinity of 1he parcel proposed for development.
The design of the signage haels to create a higher standard of signage to enhance

7. Elimination of Unattractiv. Slgnage. The signage proposed In 8 Comprehem5ive Sign Program will l'9$utt in the
elimination of existing unattractive signage or will result In an Improvement to the appearanca of the pal'C$l proposed for
development In comparison to signs otherwise permitted under the minimum sign standards.
The signage will allow for uniformity of a national standard and will not allow for

6. S~clal Area or Scenic Corridor Plan. The sign age proposed in the Comprehensive Sign Program is consistent with
any special area or scenic corridor plan which the City of Clearwater has prepared and adopted for the area In which the

Based on the scenic corridor we have tried to demonstrate minimal signage needs for bot
the awareness of the public and the sensitivity to the community.

SIGN PERMIT APPLICATION
SIGN PERMIT SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Site Plan with the following items:
(a) Location of the sign in relation to property lines, public rights-of-way, easements, buildings, and other signs on the property including dimensions.
(Freestanding signs must be a minimum of five (5) feet from any property line.)
(b) Lot frontage on all street rights-of-way.
ADDITIONAL SIGN PERMIT REQUIREMENTS:
(c) Inventory of all existina sians on the same property and/or building on which the sign is to be located, indicating the number, type, use e.g. property
identification, business identification, etc.) location and surface area. (If "none", so indicate); .
(d) Maximum and minimum height of the sign, as measured from finished grade;
(e) Dimensions of the sign's supporting members;
(f) For illuminated signs, the type, placement, intensity and hours of illumination. (Not more than five (5) foot-candles of light intensity for commercial signs.);
(g) Dimensions and elevations (including the message and color(s)) of the sign; and
(h) Construction and electrical specifications, for the purpose of enabling determination that the sign meets all applicable structural and electrical requirements
of the Building and National Electric Codes. (Indicate if UL rated.)
. All applications for signs shall include detail drawings showing how the sign is to be constructed and secured. All signs greater than
32 square feet in size shall have structural drawing signed and sealed by licensed Florida engineer or architect.
ALSO, please note that wind load requirements should conform to the 1997 edition of the Southern Standard Building Code.

Dear Ms. Nielson:
On April 3, 2003, the Planning Staff reviewed your application for a Comprehensive Sign Program to
install four attached signs of 39 square feet each with a total of 156 square feet. There will be one
attached sign located on each far;:ade of the building, with the north and south being 3.85 percent of the
far;:ade, and the east and west being 1.97 percent of the far;:ade, to which they are affixed, respectively.
The signs will read "Chic-fil-A" with red channel letters on all of the signs. In addition there will be
one freestanding sign of 45.75 square feet with a maximum height of 12 feet. The sign will have the
"Chick-fil-A" logo, text, and a reader panel located on a supporting structure colored to match the
building. The application for the Comprehensive Sign Program has been approved for the signs as
submitted (attached).
Pursuant to Section 4-303, an application for a building permit shall be made within one (1) year of the
date of this Development Order (April 3, 2004). All required building approvals shall be obtained
within one (1) year of the date of issuance of the initial building permit. Permitted time frames do not
change with successive owners.
Please be aware that the issuance of this Development Order does not relieve you of the necessity to
obtain any building permits or pay any fees that may be required. In order to facilitate the issuance of
any permit or license affected by this approval, please bring a copy of this letter with you when
applying for any permits or licenses that require this prior development approval.
