#1 Call to Order – The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:00 a.m. at Municipal Services Building Parks & Recreation Conference Room.
To provide continuity for research, items are in agenda order although not necessarily discussed in that order.
#2 Approval of Minutes of April 2, 2003 - It was moved and duly seconded to approve the minutes as submitted to members. The motion carried unanimously.
#3 Correspondence – None.
#4 Old Business
a) Status of Capital Improvement Projects – Mr. Chin discussed progress of the following:
McKay Park - Revisions to the design are under way after citizen input at public hearings.
Ross Norton Complex - Design is in progress.
Crest Lake Dog Park - City hopes to create more parking spaces. Ms. Foote suggested adding a bench at the dog park.
Glen Oaks Park - Revised plan going to City Commission May 15.
b) Committee Future - Members discussed redefining Powers and Duties of the committee as stated in the Community Development Code. Ms. France asked members to bring their suggested
wording to the June 4 meeting.
Mr. Chin presented the City project list provided by Engineering. The list will be updated in July. He said it would not be feasible for members to review each and every project but
suggested reviewing only larger projects. One person from the committee could serve on a design committee at the early planning stage then report to the Committee. Members could attend
any public hearings on that project. Members were asked to decide how they want to choose projects.
Ms. Curry said it is advisable to wonder what the City Commission has in mind as the Committee's role.
Copies of suggested criteria for Landscape Beautification Awards were distributed. Members were asked to bring their comments to the June 4 meeting.
Ms. France reminded members of the May 10 landscaping of the Post Office on Cleveland Street.
#5 New Business
Ms. Foote said an interesting item about non-profit organizations that have set up wireless Internet zones in public places is available on National Public Radio's Web site, npr.org.
