BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE MEETING

#1 Call to Order – The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m. at Municipal Services Building Parks & Recreation Conference Room.
To provide continuity for research, items are in agenda order although not necessarily discussed in that order.
#2 Approval of Minutes of February 6, 2002 – Member Hammac moved to approve the minutes as written and submitted to each member. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously.
#3 Correspondence – E-mail from City Manager’s Office reminded members the Advisory Board Dinner will be held March 19 at Harborview Center. Members were asked to RSVP if they have
not done so.
#4 Old Business
Status of Capital Improvement Projects – Mr. Chin discussed progress of the following:
Community Sports Complex – City looking at alternative sites for Phillies stadium.
Skate Park – Project on hold.
Recreation Path – Pedestrian bridges ordered for Mandalay crossing and McMulen-Booth Road . Project going out to bid in March.
Park Amenity Purchase and Replacement – On-going improvements.
City-wide P&R Master Plan – Going to Commission in April. Copies will be distributed to members For discussion at May meeting.
McKay Park – Project under way in next couple months.
Long Center – Project has commenced.
Allen’s Creek Park (Maple Swamp) – Project is in design.
Ruth Eckerd hall – Building under way.
North Greenwood Recreation/Aquatics Complex – On schedule; opening expected October 2002.
Glen Oaks Golf Course Improvements – Clubhouse under design.
Ross Norton Complex – Architect selected. Public meetings will be held for neighborhood input.
Recreation Trails – On hold until state funding approved.
Beautification Awards – Member France moved to nominate Autoway for a beautification award. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. The list of nominees was corrected
to read “Driven
Image” at the NW corner of Gulf to Bay and 19. The laboratory at Fort Harrison and Druid Road was added to the list of nominees. Members suggested a photo exhibit of winners could
be displayed at City Commission meetings, beginning with this month’s winner. Member Curry will contact Ms. Melanie Cornwell concerning digital pictures she has taken. Staff will make
a decision on whether to undertake the project.
Not on Agenda –
In answer to a previous question, Mr. Chin said there was enough city money to purchase Bayview park land and no fundraising efforts would be needed. Also, Mr. Chin said he will ask
Mr. Dunbar if an auction fundraiser is feasible.
Mr. Chin said renovation is under way at Clearwater Executive Airpark,

Mr. Chin said progress is being made on developing a Dog Park in Crest Lake Park. It will be a 100,000 sq. ft. area divided into three parts. Playground apparatus will be relocated
to near the restrooms.
