02/06/2002BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE MEETING CITY OF CLEARWATER February 6, 2002 Present: Sally Foote Chair Elizabeth France Vice Chair Jean Stuart Committee Member Allan Dadetto Committee Member Brooks Hammac Committee Member Sandy Curry Committee Member Rebecca Avrin Committee Member Also Present: Leroy Chin Park, Planning & Project Manager Bobbie Downs Staff Assistant #1 Call to Order – The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m. at Municipal Services Building Parks & Recreation Conference Room. To provide continuity for research, items are in agenda order although not necessarily discussed in that order. #2 Introduction of New Member Sandy Curry – Ms. Curry, who lives in Countryside, was introduced to membership. She complimented Countryside Recreation Center staff for their quality of service. #3 Approval of Minutes of December 5, 2001 – Chair Foote moved to approve the minutes as written and submitted to each member. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. #4 Correspondence – None. #5 Old Business Status of Capital Improvement Projects – Mr. Chin discussed progress of the following: Community Sports Complex – Alternate locations are being sought for new Phillies stadium. Ray Green Park Expansion – Negotiations continue to purchase one lot on site. Skate Park – Project on hold until spring. Softball Complex Development – Completed. Recreation Path – Pedestrian bridges ordered for Mandalay crossing and McMulen-Booth Road near Eddie C. Moore field. Park Amenity Purchase and Replacement – On-going miscellaneous improvements. City-wide P&R Master Plan – Expected to have drafted completed in April. McKay Park – Surveying property to make improvements. Long Center – Still working on funding. Allen’s Creek Park (Maple Swamp) – Landscape Architect hired to design project. Ruth Eckerd hall – Building project underway. North Greenwood Recreation/Aquatics Complex – Under construction; gym wall up. Glen Oaks Golf Course Improvements – Designing 3,000 sq. ft. multi-purpose clubhouse. Ross Norton Complex – Have requested proposal from short-listed architect. Will hold public meetings to gain neighborhood input. Recreation Trails – On hold until state funding approved. Beautification Awards – Members listed the following possibilities: Office of Dr. Paolillo, office of Dr. John Krueger, Fairfield Inn, pizza delivery building at Belcher and Nursery, Country Harvest restaurant, apartment complex at former Sunshine Mall, Mercedes dealership at Gulf-to-Bay and U.S. 19, Auto Way at Carlisle property, and World Bank at Sunset Point Road and U.S. 19. Members will visit each before the next meeting. Chair Foote asked if photos of past winners could be displayed outside City Commission chambers when Beautification Awards are presented. Staff will inquire. Not on Agenda – Chair Foote asked if a system is in place to seek public donations to help purchase Bayview park land if there is a shortfall from grant monies. Staff will inquire. Member Dadetto suggested a Mayor’s Beautification Program auction fundraiser similar to one held in Tampa. #5 New Business and #6 Adjournment — Tour of Garden Avenue Park – Members adjourned business meeting at 9:20 a.m. then visited the newest park on Garden Avenue.
