No meeting could be called due to lack of a quorum. Attendees spoke briefly beginning at 8:05 a.m. at the Municipal Services Building. Discussion items included:
Mr. Dunbar reviewed the status of the following Capital Improvement Projects:
Ray Green Park Expansion – Five parcels of property have been purchased; a contract is pending with one, and two are outstanding. Of the two, discussion is underway with one homeowner,
although the two parcels are not necessary to make the project work. Construction on the North Greenwood Recreation Complex is expected to begin in 2001 with occupancy planned in summer
2002.
Skate Park – Different systems are being explored to use the tennis court area west of the Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex building. A roller hockey rink also is being explored.
Recreation Path – Work on East-West Trail. A fly-over McMullen-Booth Road would connect the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex with Del Oro Park.
Master Plan – Planning Department has advised that Census data will be available in August or September and those figures are needed to validate numbers being used in the master plan.
Mr. Chin showed members some of the inventory of facilities he has completed.
McMullen Tennis Complex – Grand Opening is scheduled November 9 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Committee members are invited. Courts opened for play October 1. More than 200 junior tennis players
participated in a tournament there last weekend.
Countryside Infrastructure Improvement – Construction contract will be awarded November 16; projected completion is May 15, 2001.
Irrigation System Memorial Causeway – Currently in design to take advantage of reclaimed water.
Glen Oaks Golf Course – City is working with the Chi Chi Foundation to build a new clubhouse.
Members reviewed a mailing list of Clearwater homeowners and neighborhood associations, and decided to send letters asking if members would be interested in serving on the committee.
Staff will draw up the letter and send to members for comment before a mass mailing. In the area of possibly expanding the committee’s scope, Chair Stuart will contact beautification
committees in other cities to determine the kinds of projects they undertake.
Member Foote asked if the committee could be informed when issues affecting City beautification come up for decision so the committee could have time and information to make recommendations.
Mr. Dunbar said he would ask Ralph Stone, Planning Director, for guidance on issues that would affect landscaping. Mr. Stone may also provide a staff member to attend a beautification
meeting.
Mr. Dunbar said a Public Information Coordinator is being recruited to market the Parks and Recreation Department. That person could promote Beautification Awards winners.
Members adjourned at 9:20 a.m.
