HIGHLIGHTS
October 1, 2004-September 30, 2005
Child Abuse Prevention
. 145 families "graduated" from Healthy Families Pinellas
after receiving five years of program services reducing the
risk of child abuse and neglect.
. Additional funding resulted in expansion of the Father
Services program.
. 22,614 home visits were made by Family Support
Workers.
Child Care
· Provided countywide child care for 622 children ages 2
weeks to 5 years old.
· Participated in USF Student Research Project - "What are
the ethnicity expectations from a child care program?"
. Services were expanded to include Voluntary Pre-K
programs at Safety Harbor, Family Village and the Powell
Learning Center.
· All YWCA child development centers have successful
Family Involvement Programs.
· Collaborated with Channel 10 as "toy testers" for the station's annual search for the "Best Toy."
Hispanic Services
· 1,055 Hispanic immigrants received services through the
Hispanic Outreach Center's programs including advocacy,
. interpreting, ESOL, legal clinics, and informational seminars.
, · Received the 2004 Community Partnership Award as
Honorable Mention from Mutual of America for the
YWCA's work with the City of Clearwater's Police Depart-
if,ii.' ment to provide interpreter and advocacy services to the His-
, panic community.
· Successfully negotiated with Gulfcoast Legal Services to
provide an immigration attorney at the Hispanic Outreach Center on a weekly basis. In addition,
"People's Law School" began to be offered.
· Expanded services to include weekly visits from the county's Mobile Medical Van.
· "Interpreter Training Academy" certified eight new interpreters for the program.
· Verizon donated $4,500 to provide a computer lab at the Hispanic Outreach Center.
Homeless Families
. Family Village served 265 children and 137 adults in 131
families, providing almost 1,900 referrals and activities including
financial literacy classes, parenting support training, art therapy,
field trips, summer programs and camps.
. Wachovia Bank increased their financial commitment to
$10,000 for the continuation and expansion of the on-site financial
literacy program for residents.
. Chapman Foundation continued to support Family Village for
the third consecutive year.
. Publix Charities, since 1988, has continued to support the YWCA and Family Village.
. Bill Jackson's Outdoor Adventure offered Family Village teens kayakingand canoe experiences.
. Numerous renovations were completed including a new phone system, resealing and striping of the
parking lot, new sod for the courtyard area, glass enclosure for youth development area, range
hoods, new water heaters, mattresses, and loveseats.
. Art therapy for children residing at Family Village was initiated by Ed's Place (Jeanette Reid and
Edward Reid Counseling Services).
. For the third consecutive year, Camp Joy provided sleep away camp experiences for Family Village
school-aged children.
Teen Pregnancy
. 194 pregnant and parenting adolescents attended school at the
YWCA, 50% of whom made dean's list and/or honor roll.
. Tabatha Andonia, a graduate of the YWCA Adolescent
Pregnancy and Parenting Services program was featured in United
Way's 2005 campaign marketing materials.
. 78 community presentations on teen pregnancy prevention and
risky behaviors were made to over 3,000 youth and close to 500
adults.
. In partnership with Pinellas County Health Department, the
YWCA was awarded a four-year Federal Healthy Start contract to continue providing Father Ser-
VIces.
Youth Development
. Expanded services to include a newly created position,
Director of Youth Programming.
. Successful merger ofP.E.T.T.A.L.S. and YGirlS programs
into YGirlS Leadership Development Program.
. 55 community service projects and 1,666 development
activities were conducted.
. Through the generosity of the GFWC Clearwater Junior
Woman's Club and JWB, YGirlS hosted their first annual
"Turn Beauty Inside Out" summit.
. 81 st non-denominational Easter Sunrise Service was
held at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park with the collection
being donated to YGirlS.
. YGirlS attended the YWCA Southeast Regional
Conference.
· Eckerd Family Foundation approved another year of funding scholarships for YWCA participants
in need.
Youth Development continued
. YWCA leadership exchanges hands: Peggy Sanchez
Mills heads to Washington to head YWCA USA. Susan
Finlaw-Dusseault assumes the responsibilities as the CEO at
the YWCA of Tampa Bay.
· Completed Strategic Plan for 2005-2008.
. Expanded fundraising opportunities by participating in
the Chrysler Championship "Birdies for Charities."
. Provided leadership in the Midtown Collaborative.
. YWCA was one of three finalists for the "Outstanding
Non Profit of the Year" award from the St. Petersburg Area
Chamber of Commerce.
· 5th Annual Past President's Luncheon was held.
· Ambassador Program continued to utilize volunteers to contact YWCA donors to personally
thank them for their generosity.
· YWCA leadership participated on National YWCA initiatives including Gender Specific Task
F'orce, National Coordinating Board for YWCA USA, Peer Review, and Organizational Task
Force.
· Through Eckerd College's generosity, Musimbi Kanyaro, General Secretary of the World
YWCA, visited Pinellas County touring YWCA programs and speaking at a Donor Reception.
· United Way Day of Caring was another huge success with participants including Progress
Energy, St. Petersburg Automated Flight Services, Publix, Renaissance Vinoy Resort, J.C.
Penney of Countryside, Hercules Bulldog Sealing Products and United Way Loaned Executives.
· Locally the YWCA launched the new national brand used throughout the United States.
Immediately, the brand began eliminating any confusion of what the YWCA strives for.
· Two lovely donor appreciation receptions were held and graciously hosted by Doug and Sharon
Jackson.

YWCA staff at the Family Village Housing program
welcomes Musimbi Kanyaro, General Secretary of
World YWCA. The children residing in the program
created a sign that read "Karibu" (hello in Kenyan,
Musimbi's native language.)
Students enrolled in the YWCA's Adolescent Preg-
nancy & Parenting Services program in north County
collect food, diapers, baby items, and other items for
Katrina victims at sister YWCA Association in Louisi-
ana.

ywca of Tampa Bay
Established locally in 1919, the ywca is an autonomous
women's movement providing leadership for social change. We
work to achieve peace, justice, equality and dignity for all. We
provide services that develop youth and strengthen women and
families.
The YWCA's Mission in Action
The YWCA focuses on children and youth by providing quality child care to low-income
families, primary prevention of youth delinquency for high-risk girls, prevention of family
violence, and programs to support pregnant and parenting teens, and homeless
families.
