I am writing in follow -up to our recent conversation. As you are aware, I have inspected the adjacent City
property west of the site of your business at 1343 Cleveland Street. I recognize your dilemma with your
existing site restrictions. In lieu of being able to encroach into your parking area, you are very limited in
what you could plant between your existing west curb, and the east edge of City property (approximately
one foot). You might be able to successfully install a podocarpus hedge, but I certainly understand your
concern for possible damage to the hedge from automobiles. As I mentioned, the only way to facilitate
your planting on City property, would be by entering into an Adopt -A -Park Permit, whereby you would
agree to bear the cos_ t of the installation and on -going maintenance for any landscape installation. I fully
understand that this option does not interest you, and I honestly don't know if this action would even serve
to mitigate any of your permitting requirements. Mark Parry, Central Permitting (562- 4558), would have
to answer any question relating to those requirements.
I also inspected the other areas of concern, within and adjacent to the drainage ditch. The right -of -way area
on the east side of Lady Mary Drive is maintained by a new contractor and should be serviced immediately.
The rest of the drainage ditch that runs through the area is maintained jointly by our Department and Public
Service. Our Equipment Team (Howard Selig, Coordinator, 462 -6563 x -226) slope mows the portion of
the bank that they are able to access approximately every two months, and Public Service (Muhammad
Abdur- Rahim, 462 -6585) basically maintains the bottom of the ditch. Please feel free to utilize Howard as
the direct contact on any of these issues.
Best of luck with your endeavors.
Sincerely,
L owd
