Mr. Glen Wilson, Vice President

2650 Countryside Boulevard
Clearwater, Florida 34621
Dear Mr. Wilson,
OF C L E A

W A
T E R
POST
OFFICE
BOX 4748
CLEARWATER,
FLORIDA 34618
-4748
Attached is a summary of our recent inspection for landscape compliance at Rustlewood Condominiums. The
purpose for the periodic reinspection is to insure that properties maintain required landscape material in a
healthy growing condition as provided by city code. Our inspection revealed that the landscape at Rustlewood
is for the most part being maintained properly.
However, one area of non compliance relates to required trees growing within the landscape buffer adjacent to
S.R. 580. These trees have been continuously topped and consequently have never developed into shade trees
as specified by city code. The code requires the planting of a specific quantity of shade trees so that the
ecological and aesthetic benefits provided by the developing tree canopy will ultimately replace that which was
lost due to the site development.
In addition to the landscape code requirement, it is now a violation of the city's tree ordinance to top protected
trees. Topping a tree can cause a number of problems to trees that can render them structurally weak and
susceptible to disease and insect attack. To insure continual compliance'with city codes, please allow the subject
trees to grow with no further topping or replace these trees with new shade tree species at your option.
As trees grow and begin to become larger they may need periodic pruning to allow them to co -exist with nearby
structures. There are a number of beneficial pruning techniques that can be performed on trees .to make them
safe and healthy. However, topping should never be performed on a tree and as mentioned is a violation of city
code. Please contact Rick Albee of the Environmental Management Group at 462 -6598 should you have any
questions about this matter or if you need advice concerning tree pruning.
Sincerely,
Michael D. Quille .E.
