Rat Results of Double -!Ring Infiltration Tqst
Nicholson Hausa of Antiques
Clearwater, Florida
Dear Mr. Roberts:
In accordance with the request from Mr. Art Argerenon, with
Sohn e. Brandla and Associate%, Inc., DRIWERS ENGINEERING
SERVICES! INC., has Completed the Double -Ring Infiltration test
and classification boring at the lOCation identified-on the
transmitted site plan and illustrated on Plat$ I. The following
letter presents the results of the infiltration test and hand
auger borings plus comments on existing and seasonal high
groundwater levals.
Prior to Conducting the Double -RIng Infiltration test, a hand
auger baring was performed to establish subsurface soil and
groundwater conditions %, used to aid in selecting the depth of the
infiltration test. The hand auger boring revealed the presence of
grayish -brown and tan fine sand, extending below graced to the
completion depth of the auger boring. Groundwater was not
observed within the vertical reaches of the auger boring, which
was advanced to a depth of ton (ie) f %rat below the existing ground
surface. The boring leg is attached for your review.

According to the U.S.D.A. Soil Conservation Service (SCS)
manual for Pinellas County, the drainage pond occurs within the
Urban Land - Astatula Complex. Since the tit@ and gutrounding areas
have been modified by urbanization, the SCS does not estimate a
high water table for this soil series. Nevertheless, the Astatula
soil complex, which has a representative soil profile similar to
subsurface conditions encountered.at the test location, reportedly
has a water table greater than sixty (60) inches, which was
confirmed by our boring. Consequmntly, in order to define
seasonal high groundwater levels, a shallow piezometer should be
installed, with groundwater levels monitored throughout the
upcoming rainy *eason.
The Double -Ring Infiltration test was conducted at a depth of
three (3.0) feet below the existing ground surface. The
infiltration test rate was measured at twenty -four (24) inches per
hour. Care must certainly be exercised in the application of
infiltration test results to the design of the drainage pond. The
analysis of seepage infiltration must include the permeability
characteristics of the subsurface soils, a careful assessment of
hydraulic boundary conditions and other factors which will '
influents the operating characteristics of the pond. The results
Of our test, along with a brief description of the test procedure
are attached.
