Tree Inventory f 531 S. FortRarrigo'nn Xvenu
Tree canopy analysis: The subject site is commercial property that has been cleared of
all native understory and overstory vegetation with the exception of one 52" diameter live
oak (quercus virginiana) tree that likely pre - existed development at this site. The overall
condition of the. trees reflects general neglect. Problems such as large deadwood, heavy
mistletoe infestation and large branch stubs indicate that the trees have not _received
maintenance for an extended period. The aforementioned 52" live oak tree is the only tree
that warrants serious consideration for preservation at this site.
Rating System
0 — A dead tree.
1 — Trees that are dying, severely declining, or hazardous and trees designated by the
State of Florida's Exotic Pest Plant Council as a category #1 ecological pest, i.e.,
Brazilian pepper tree. A tree with a #1 rating should be removed.
2 — Trees exhibiting serious structural defects (i.e., codominant stems with included
bark), large cavities, crown dieback, low energy, low live crown ratio, serious disease
or insect problems, nutritional deficiencies or pH related problems. A tree with a #2
rating should be removed unless the problems will be mitigated.
_ 3 — Trees that have good overall structure and systemic health with problems that can
be corrected with moderate maintenance. A tree with a #3 rating should be preserved
if possible.
4 — Trees with good structure and .systemic health with problems that can easily be
corrected with minor maintenance. Trees should exhibit good form with above
average crown density. Mature trees exhibiting scars, old wounds, small cavities or
other problems that are not debilitating can be included in this group particularly if
they possess unique form or other aesthetic amenities relating to their age. Trees with
a #4 rating should be preserved and warrant site plan modification for preservation.
5- Trees with high live crown ratio, exceptional structure, systemic health, good form
and free from any serious disease, insect problem or nutritional deficiency. A tree in
this category should have a balanced crown with exceptional aesthetic qualities. Trees
with a #5 rating lend considerable value to the site and should be incorporated into
the site design.
6- Specimen tree — A specimen tree is a- tree that possesses a combination of superior
qualities relating to size, specie, form, uniqueness, structure, systemic health and
crown density. A specimen tree must be preserved and incorporated into a site design
with an undisturbed area equal to the tree's dripline.

52" DBH Live oak (Quercus virginiana)
27'
-N, 45' -S, 33' -E, 45' -W
Comments: This tree has high aesthetic value due to form and blends in well with
other mature live oaks that flank the downtown Ft. Harrison Avenue corridor. Basal
decay is minor and does not appear to be progressive. Proper pruning will remove
branch stubs, deadwood and sucker growth. This tree will need adequate green space
or an aeration system if preserved.

20" DBH Laurel oak (Quercus laurifolia)
2 24' -N, 18' -S, 28' -E, 10' -W
Comments: This tree has above average systemic health but suffers from very poor
structure and a .heavy mistletoe infestation. Mistletoe removal will damage structure
further. This tree should not be preserved.
3- 11 "DBH Laurel oak 2 16' -N, 10' -S, 6' -E, 18' -W
Comments: This tree has one -sided crown due to competition from tree #2. Tree has
very poor structure and minor mistletoe infestation. This tree should not be preserved.

CITY OF CLEARWATER
Tree preservation plan for Fort Harrison Detail, 535 S. Fort arrison
Avenue, Clearwater, Florida
The following report contains specific recommendations to assist with preserving existing
trees incorporated into the final site plan design. In addition, the plan provides
recommendations for trees on adjacent properties that will be impacted by the proposed
development and trees growing on City of Clearwater rights of way that abut the subject
property.
General notes:
• All crown pruning, root pruning, aeration system construction and other
arboricultural activities performed on the trees referenced herein shall be
performed by or under the supervision of an International Society of
Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist and in accordance with applicable
American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards for tree care operations.
(A -300 for pruning)
• Crown pruning and root pruning shall be performed prior to commencement of
site work to prevent unnecessary damage to preserved trees.
• Tree barricades shall be installed around preserved trees per the City of
Clearwater Tree Protection Ordinance specifications, prior to the commencement
of site work and shall remain in compliance throughout the construction process.
• Tree barricades meeting City of Clearwater specifications shall be installed into
root pruning trenches after root pruning is complete.
• Changes in the approved final site design that affect trees to be preserved shall be
submitted to the proper City of Clearwater department for review.
Specific recommendations: The following recommendations reference trees numbered
in red ink on the attached final site plan.
Tree #1 — 15" diameter (diameter of tree trunk measured 4.5' above grade) southern red
cedar (Juniperus silicicola) tree located on adjacent property. Root prune tree per red line
on site plan and construct tree barricade per the red line and blue line. Raise canopy to a
height of 14 -15' above the proposed grade to accommodate construction equipment and
future vehicular traffic.
Tree 92 — 36" diameter live oak (Quercus virginiana) tree located on adjacent property.
Root prune tree per the red line on site plan and construct tree barricade per the red and
blue line. Raise tree canopy to a height of 14 -1.5' above the proposed grade to
accommodate construction equipment and future vehicular traffic. Remove deadwood in
crown located over property.
Tree #3 -- 18" diameter live oak (Quercus virginiana) tree located within interior
landscape island. The site plan proposes to preserve this tree within an interior landscape
island that is surrounded by pavement. The tree's absorbing root system will experience
grade cuts that will severely impact this tree's ability to survive. It is recommended that
the interior landscape island directly to the west of this tree be incorporated into the
interior landscape island supporting this tree (as shaded green on the site plan) to increase
this tree's rooting area and its chance of survival. In addition, an area equal to the tree's
dripline (as depicted on the site plan) should be constructed of concrete installed on
existing grade and vented every four feet with a Water, Air, Nutrient Exchange aeration
system (W.A.N.E. unit) or equivalent aeration device approved by an I.S.A. Certified
Arborist. Raise the canopy to a height of 14 -15' above the proposed grade to
accommodate vehicular traffic. If this tree's root system cannot be protected per the
above described methods, contact the appropriate City of Clearwater department to
discuss options.
Tree #4 — 15" diameter Laurel oak (Quercus laurifolia) tree located at the southeast
corner of the property. This tree is located 4' from a sidewalk to the south and 5' south
of a proposed retention pond. The proposed grade cuts for the pond excavation will
impact the tree's already thinning crown. One option is to shift the proposed pond as far
as possible to the west and root prune and barricade the tree as delineated by red and blue
lines respectively. Raise canopy to a height of 12 -14' to accommodate excavation
equipment. A second option is to remove the tree. Contact the appropriate City of
Clearwater department to discuss removal options for the tree if it is located within the
subject property.
Tree #5 — All trees growing on the City of Clearwater rights of way shall be barricaded
per the specifications of the City of Clearwater Tree Protection Ordinance.
If you need further assistance relative to the tree preservation measures described above
please call Alan Mayberry, Consulting Arborist, Boen's Tree Service, at (727) 785 -5779

Don,
On 2/4/05 Keith Zayac emailed an opinion of cost letter for the credit of the proposed landscape in the ROW.
Apparently you disagree with our cost, which is based on our preferred landscaper. I have reviewed our
proposals and updated some of the numbers to maintain an average number compared to our low number.

We feel this is more than adequate to credit to landscape in the ROW. If you are not in agreement, we would
prefer to install as per plan because of the added value this would have on our property. Please respond, as
we would like to resolve all issues before completion of the project.
