Zion United Methodist Church 825 Howard St. Dear Richard: After having the opportunity to visit the site and inspect the proposed grades for the parking lot, it was determined that additional or increased concrete areas adjacent to some existing trees would be beneficial for the preservation of these trees. Concrete opposed to asphalt has less of an impact on the trees root system, therefor improving the trees ability to survive the impact as well as increasing the trees safety factor. Loss of major supporting roots could create a hazardous tree. The recommended changes of additional concrete areas placed on grade, as we discussed in the field, will greatly improve the environment for the protected trees.
