12-10RESOLUTION NO. 12-10 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, OPPOSING THE PLAN TO RELOCATE FAMILY COURT FROM DOWNTOWN CLEARWATER TO THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE CENTER; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, many family court attorneys have offices located in and around downtown Clearwater for ease of access to Family Court for their clients; and WHEREAS, the family court consolidation would increase vehicle miles traveled at a time that Pinellas County funds for congestion mitigation are more and more limited; and WHEREAS, relocation of Family Court to the Criminal Justice Center will have a negative economic impact on the downtown Clearwater area, affecting both the tax rolls of the city and the county; and WHEREAS, it is the belief of the City of Clearwater that the Criminal Justice Center does not have the capacity nor the surrounding infrastructure to accommodate the consolidation of the Family Courts located in Clearwater and St. Petersburg; and WHEREAS, Family Court is part of the Civil Court system, which is located at the courthouse in Clearwater; and WHEREAS, it is the belief of the City of Clearwater that family law cases should not be grouped with criminal crimes because of the impact on couples and their children; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Council of the City of Clearwater does hereby unanimously oppose the relocation of Family Court from downtown Clearwater to the Criminal Justice Center. Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this Approved s to form: Pamela K. Akin City Attorney 3 rd day of MaY , 2012. - (QOrtnC'Z.os George N.
