11-12RESOLUTION NO. 11-12
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER,
FLORIDA, RECOMMENDING THAT THE BOARD OF
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS DENY THE APPLICATION
TO INSTALL A ZIPLINE IN SAND KEY PARK; PROVIDING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS Sand Key Park is a park of regional significance on the Gulf of
Mexico, and;
WHEREAS Sand Key Park has historically not been developed to serve more
retail and entertainment needs of beach goers, needs that are amply met along the
County's beaches, and
WHEREAS Sand Key Park in fact is not noted for a high level of environmental
assets but rather contains vegetation considered invasive and nuisance species, and
WHEREAS the existence of the proposed "zip line" would appear to contribute
little to either the ecological value or understanding of the park or otherwise contribute
to the most compatible needs of the large number of beachgoers utilizing the park for its
historical purpose; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City Council of the City of Clearwater does hereby
unanimously recommend that the Board of County Commissioners consider the
incompatibilities of the proposed "zip line" facility with the historic use of the park as well
as its failure to promote true ecological tourism opportunities and deny the use of Sand
Key Park for the proposed activity.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
