At the Commission Work Session of September 4, 1979, you indicated a desire
for an inventory of all existing City owned parks and recreation property.
Undeveloped properties are designated by an asterisk in the attached chart.
Specific interest was shown in these undeveloped areas in order to determine
whether or not they would be suitable for the construction of a softball or
soccer complex. The attached chart shows that 21 areas are categorized as being
undeveloped. They are addressed below.
Alligator Lake- - - - This is a small area which is wet and which is adjacent to
the P. A. C. T. property.
Beach Park- - - - This site is only a 1/2 acre in Slze located on Mandalay Avenue.
Cedar Groves----Located on Montclair Road but too small for development of
athletic facilities.
Charter Oaks----Located on North Hercules Avenue. Too small for development
of athletic facilities.
Chautauqua East and West----These particular sites are large enough for
athletic complexes but are not suitable due to dense tree populations and low
areas. They are being considered for future pas sive type parks.
Countryside Tract 20- - - The development of this tract will be initiated in the
next budget year using $30,000 which has been earmarked for this purpose.

Future plans call for one or two ballfields and a soccer field. Additionally,
other facilities are being considered toward eventual development of a
complete conununity park.
Countryside Tract 28----This tract is extremely heavily wooded and narrow.
Future plans are to develop it as a passive area and to provide access through
the site to facilities located at Countryside High School.
Countryside Tract 6l----This property is large but has several low areas and
n\lInerous trees which make it undesirable for a softball or soccer complex.
Eventual plans are to develop it as a conununity park containing various types
of facilities.
Cypress Bend----A large site but too heavily wooded for active development.
Frank Tack Park- - - - The only undeveloped area of this property is the South
end, which is currently designed for a water retention area and pas sive park.
Lake Hobart South- - - - Too small for active development.
Lakeview (Belcheer)----This area is large but is unsuitable for active development
since it is a peat bog.
Missouri Avenue D. O. T. ----A lake is located in the center of this property,
which negates it being extensively developed for active recreation.
Moccasin Lake Park----Intentions are to develop this area in the future as an
outdoor education center and picnic ~rea.
North East Coachman----An attractive piece of property but very heavily
wooded and unsuitable for active development. Current plans are to utilize the
area for picnic and other passive interests.
Shady Oaks----Too small for a major recreation complex but suitable for a
future neighborhood park.
Transfer Station- _ __ This is property located around the City's Transfer Stat ion
which is heavily wooded and unsuitable for active#development.

Altogether, the above properties total approximately 296 acres. They are
valuable properties and each has its own attractive features. However, we
don't feel that any of them are suitable for a softball complex due to the fact
that the complex will require an extensive piece of property void of trees.
The 320 Acres of City owned land located on the East and West side of
McMullen Booth Road is not included in the attached chart. The actual
development of this particular site has not yet been determined.
Please advise if further information is desired.
Sincerely,
Enclosure
