Mrs. Smith was married to Joe Ed Messer at the time of his death in 1956. We have
nothing in our records on the Constantines other than their name as owners of the plots.
Mrs. Smith says she purchased the plots (in 1956) but she doesn't even remember from
whom.

In the past we have allowed the plots to be sold where the purported owners are willing to execute affidavits attesting
how they came to own the plots and other interested parties execute releases.
We would need to know the relationship between Mrs. Smith and Joe Ed Messer/Ellington Clark Messer.
For instance, if the plots were owned by Mrs. Smith's parents and she and her siblings were the heirs, then we would get
an affidavit setting forth those facts and a release from any living siblings.
We can also research the whereabouts of the Constantines and contact them if they are reachable.
Ellen, upon your return Tuesday please look for samples of such affidavits/releases in our Cemetery file.

I received a call today from a Ray Smith, he said his wife Charlotte Smith (aka Charlotte
Messer) purchased 4 cemetery plots in 1956. The plots in question are Block 7, Lot 84,
Spaces 1, 2, 3, & 4. Our records show these spaces are owned by a Harry H. & Nancy T.
Constantine and buried in Space 1 is Joe Ed Messer (12/3/1956) and in Space 3 Ellington
Clark Messer (11/21/1958). I have no deeds to show if Mr. or Mrs. Constantine or Mr. or
Mrs. Messer ever owned the plots. I have contacted Official Records of Pinellas County and
they also can't locate a deed in the name of Constantine or Messer or anyone for that
matter.

I believe the Smiths want to sell the plots and when I said they needed proof of ownership.
He asked for copies of the deeds we have for the ownership of the plots and/or the
paperwork for the Messer's burials and I don't have anything.
How should I respond?
