From the physical beauty of our waterway, it would not look appropriate because of how our boat lift is situation on our property. The Del Basso's can back directly out of their deck. If we purchase a larger boat, it could be very difficult to maneuver in and out of our boat slip. Three of the neighbors between the Del Basso's and us share a large deck only. Sent: Wednesday, November 30, 2005 12:15 PM To: Schodtler, John Cc: Wells, Wayne Subject: Comments on FLD2005-11106 and FLS(?)2005-08058 Not sure who needs these, the commercial one FLD-11106 at 143 Island Way is not a problem for navigation, I went out to the site took pictures I see no problem or reason to challenge any part of this proposed dock. the other FLS2005-08058 219 Sand Key Estates Dr. causes me some concern. I contacted the neighbors at 215, 1 have copies of their concerns, got their permission to go out an look at and photograph the site as well as look at the County aerials and the aerial the neighbors at 215 provided. Docks in "corners" always pose a problem and tend to strain neighbor relations. The residents of 219 were permitted a boat lift that went out farther than their dock several years ago. They are now asking for the dock to extend out so it is safer for their children to board their vessel. If you look to the dock on the opposite side of their neighbors that dock has a vessel on a lift albeit a smaller vessel. I suspect that the neighbor on that side bought a vessel of appropriate size for the dock he had as he was most likely not allowed a variance to build his dock out farther. The residents at 219 have a larger boat, need deeper water hence the lift is farther out. The lift they 100_3455.JPG have has a catwalk built into the lift. so they can get to the stern of the boat. They residents of 219 are saying they need the 10 foot of dock for the safety of boarding their children. If the catwalk remains in the slip they would have their boat when lowered a good 3 feet away from the dock, unless they intend to pull out of the slip and tie up to the side of the dock that adjoins the property at 215 Sand Key Estates. I contacted the agent, Speeler Enterprises and suggested they may want to reach a compromise with their neighbors by moving the boat in the lift so they could board from the dock to the boat while the boat is in the slip. I do not know the real intent of the dock, if it is indeed for boarding, and safety is a concern they would have to be of the intent to tie up to the dock and by doing so would be well into the extended property line of the residents at 215. If 219 gets an extended dock, the dock on the other side of 215 could also request an extension and that would effectively cut the 3 homes in the corner from having and water access from their shared dock. A ten foot extension would limit access to our dock since we are at the end of the inland waterway and in a corner. It would also make it more difficult for boats to dock at the surrounding neighbor's docks. 2_ The extension of the dock would seriously impair and reduce our view of the waterway which was a major attraction when we bought this property thus affecting future property value. 3, The owners of 219 spend limited time here at the Moorings. Their home is in England. For us, this is our main residence. We would feel greatly hindered by having both our sightlines and access restricted. Please note that when we purchased our home, the previous owners forewarned us that the owners next door at 219 would be contacting us regarding a dock extension which they had been trying to get approved for some time, They clearly emphasized: "Do not do this. You will regret such an extension and so will the other homes nearby". They also indicated that 219 would be very insistent and would contact us immediately which became a reality. We received several emails insisting that we comply with his request for the proposed extension, The Architectural Review board of the Moorings has • informed us that to date no proposal has been submitted to them for approval of a dock extension by the owners of 219.
