12/11/2008 PENSION ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES CITY OF CLEARWATER December 11, 2008 Present: Nathan Hightower Chair Tom Jensen Vice-Chair John Schmalzbauer Committee Member Carlen Petersen Councilmember John Doran Committee Member/Councilmember Brian De Witt Committee Member Absent: Paul Gibson Committee Member/Councilmember Also Present: Joe Roseto Human Resources Director Patricia O. Sullivan Board Reporter The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:13 a.m. at City Hall. To provide continuity for research, items are in agenda order although not necessarily discussed in that order. 2 - Approval of Minutes Member Petersen moved to approve the minutes of the regular Pension Advisory Committee meeting of November 13, 2008, as submitted in written summation to each board member. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. 3 – Employees to be Heard – None. 4 – Action Items: a. Review and Action on Employee Requests for Regular Pensions: 1. Marlene P. Havens, Library 2. James Steffens, Police Member Schmalzbauer moved to approve the requests for regular pensions for Marlene P. Havens and James Steffens. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. b. Review and Action on Employee Requests to Vest Pensions: 1. Brenda Moses Brenda Moses, Official Records & Legislative Services, has resigned her position after being employed by the City for more than 10 years. She will qualify to receive her reduced pension beginning August 1, 2016. 2. Helen Goldschmidt Helen Goldschmidt, Library, has resigned her position after being employed by the City for more than 10 years. She will qualify to receive her reduced pension beginning May 1, 2010. Pension Advisory 2008-12-11 1 Member Schmalzbauer moved to recommend approval of the requests by Brenda Moses and Helen Goldschmidt to vest their pensions. The motion was duly seconded and carried unanimously. c. Hearing date re status of Thomas Stubblefield's Disability Pension (January 8, 2009) Human Resources Director Joe Roseto said the Pension Plan Attorney has not heard from Thomas Stubblefield, following attempts to contact him and request that he submit to an IME (Independent Medical Exam). Nothing in his current employer's records indicates that he is disabled. Mr. Stubblefield will be noticed regarding the January hearing. 6 - Director's Report - None. 7 - Committee Members to be Heard Members thanked retiring employees for their service to the City and residents; wished Happy Holidays to all. 8 - Adiourn J/ . !J. .
