AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
AMENDING SECTION 143.31, SPECIFIC REGULATIONS, OF
ARTIOLE.III, REGULATIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS, OF
CHAPTER 143, SIGNS, OF TITLE XI, BUILDING AND ZONING
REGULATIONS, OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, CITY OE
CLEARWATER, TO PROVIDE CRITERIA FOR ERECTION OF
POLITICAL SIGNS ON COMMERCIAL PROPERTY AND
RESIDENTIAL ZONES; TO PROVIDE NO POLITICAL SIGN
SHALL BE PLACED IN ANY PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY,
INCLUDING HOLDING SIGNS, OR ON PUBLIC PROPERTY;
TO PROVIDE THAT ANY POLITICAL SIGN ERECTED IN
VIOLATION SHALL BE SUBJECT TO IMMEDIATE REMOVAL
BY AUTHORIZED CITY PERSONNEL; PROVIDING FOR
THE REPEAL OF ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES
IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVIDING FOR THE SEPARA-
BILITY OF THE PROVISIONS HEREOF; PROVIDING FOR
PROPER NOTICE OF PROPOSED ENACTMENT; AND
PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ORDINANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA;
Section 1. That subsection (c), Political Signs, of Section 143. 31,
Specific Regulations, of Article III, Regulations and Specifications, of
Chapter 143, Signs, of Title XI, Building and Zoning Regulations, of the
Code of Ordinances, City of Clearwater, be and the same is hereby
amended to read as follows:
(c) Political Signs.
(1) Political signs are temporary off premises signs
which may be displayed for sixty (60) days prior
to an election or referendum and which shall be
removed within seven (7) days following the election

2) No political signs shall be placed on undeveloped or
Public property. Signs placed on private property must
have the property owner's permission. Sins on commercial
property shall be no larger than 4' x 8' in size. Signs in
residential zones shall be limited to a maximum of six (6)
s uare feet.
(3) No political sign shall be placed, deposited, maintained
or used within any public right-of-way. This includes
persons olding signs. Norshall any political signs e
attac ed to utility poles or traffic signs and their supports.

{3}- Prior to erecting such signs, candidates or their
representatives shall notify the city sign inspector of their
intent to erect such signs and shall submit a letter
acknowledging their familiarity with the requirement of
this section.
(Z4 J&Candidates or their representatives shall employ their
best effort to remove all political signs within seven (7)
days following the election or referendum, and shall submit
a signed affidavit that to the best of such person's knowledge
all of the signs erected have been removed. The signed
affidavit shall be submitted to the sign inspector[ within
ten (10) working days following the election or referendum.
S6 An political signs erected in violation of this section
shall be subject to immediate removal b authorized
City personnel. .w
Section 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are to the extent of such conflict hereby repealed.
Section 3. Should any part or provision of this ordinance be declared
by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, the same shall not affect
the validity of the ordinance as a whole, or any part thereof other than the
part declared to be invalid.
Section 4. Notice of the proposed enactment of this ordinance has
been properly advertised in a newspaper of general circulation in accordance
with Section 166. 041, Florida Statutes.
Section 5. The provisions of this ordinance shall take effect
immediately upon its passage.
