AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
AMENDING CHAPTER 8, ELECTIONS, OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
1962, TO PROVIDE FOR WRITE-IN CANDIDATES AND
FOR DESIGNATION OF WATCHERS; PROVIDING FOR THE
SEPARABILITY OF THE PROVISIONS HEREOF; PROVIDING
FOR THE REPEAL OF ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDI-
NANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVIDING FOR PROPER
NOTICE OF PROPOSED ENACTMENT; AND PROVIDING FOR
THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ORDINANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1. Article I, In General, of Chapter 8, Elections, of the
Code of Ordinances of the City of Clearwater, Florida, 1962, is hereby
amended by enacting a new Section 8-6 to read as follows:
Section 8-6. Write-In Candidates.
(1) Any person seeking election by write-in votes,
in order to be entitled to have write-in votes cast
for him counted, shall have, not more than sixty (60)
days nor less than thirty-five (35) days prior to the
general municipal election, certified under oath to
the City Clerk the following information:
(a) The person's name,
(b) The person's address,
(c) That such person possesses all the qualifications
required by law for the office of Mayor-Commissioner
or Commissioner,
(d) The name of the office he seeks, and
(e) That such person will accept the office sought.
(2) Upon providing the certified information required above,
such person shall be considered a candidate as defined
in Section 8-53, except that such candidate shall not be
entitled to have his or her rlame printed on the ballot.
Section 2. Sub-section (d) of Section 8-1, Time of holding general
elections; officers to be elected; procedures, of Article I, In General, of
Chapter 8, Elections, of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Clearwater,
Florida, 1962, is hereby amended to read as follows:

(d) All individual candidates shall be permitted to have one
watcher in each polling place from the beginning to the
conclusion of each election, as designated in Chapter
101. 131 JjL Florida Statutes. Watchers must be designated
in writing ten 10 da s rior to the election and eerti- ied
to. approved by the city clerk at least five (5) days prior to
the election.
