AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
° AMENDING SECTION 143. 31, SPECIFIC REGULATIONS, OF
' CHAPTER 143, SIGNS, OF TITLE XI, BUILDING AND ZONING
REGULATIONS, OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, CITY OF

EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ORDINANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That subsection (c), Conditional Signs, of Section 143.31,
Specific Regulations, of Article III, Regulations and Specifications, of Chapter
143, Signs, of Title XI, Building and Zoning Regulations, of the Code of
Ordinances, City of Clearwater, be and the same is hereby amended and
supplemented to read as follows:
(c) C-xxlitiona3 Political signs:
r u= (1) Political signs are temporary off-premises signs which
may be displayed for sixty (60) days prior to an election
f• or referendum and which shall be removed within seven
,??_,
.`? (7) days following the election or referendum. Political
signs in residential and institutional zones shall not exceed
six (b) square feet in size, and one such sign may be displayed
in the front yard of residential and institutional properties.
(2) Prior to erecting such signs, candidates or their representatives
shall notify the city sign inspector of their intent to erect such
signs and shall submit a letter acknowledging their familiarity
.W?E. with the requirement of this section.
' (3) Candidates or their representatives shall employ their best
effort to remove all political signs within seven (7) days following
;µ..} the election or referendum, and shall submit a signed affidavit
that to the best of such person's knowledge all of the signs erected
_ have been removed. The signed affidavit shall be submitted to
the sign inspector within ten (10) working days following the
?•'. >>; election or referendum.
(4) No political sign shall be placed, deposited, maintained or
used within any public right-of-way.
5 The above rovisions of this subsection shall be enforced bX
the sign inspector and/or police department. Once a violation
has been determined the candidate will be ?iven twenty-four
(24) hours to correct the violation. Violations that continue
beyond the twenty-four 24 hour period shall be punishable b
a fine of Fif Dollars 50.00 per violation.

Section 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are to the extent of such conflict hereby repealed.
Section 3. Should any part or provision of this ordinance be declared
by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, the same shall not affect
the validity of the ordinance as a whole, or any part thereof other than the
part declared to be invalid.
Section 4. Notice of the proposed enactment of this ordinance has
been properly advertised in a newspaper of general circulation in accordance
with Section 166.041, Florida Statutes.
Section 5. The provisions of this ordinance shall take effect
immediately upon its passage.
